Ford's Q2 Triumph: F-Series And Vans Top Charts As Hybrids And EVs See Significant Growth

Ford Motor Company has seen significant growth in its U.S. sales across various vehicle categories, including trucks, vans, hybrids, and electric vehicles. The company's F-Series remains the top-selling truck lineup in America, outperforming competitors like Silverado and Ram by substantial margins. Ford's Maverick and Maverick Hybrid have also set new records for the first half of the year.

Ford's hybrid vehicle sales have increased by 56 percent, reaching a new quarterly record of 53,822 units. The Maverick Hybrid leads this segment with 40,420 units sold in the first half of the year. Notably, around 60 percent of Maverick Hybrid buyers are switching from other brands, often trading in small SUVs and compact cars for this affordable midsize pickup.

Ford Q2 Sales Soar: Hybrids & EVs Up

The F-150 Hybrid follows closely with 33,674 units sold through June, marking a 38 percent increase. This model represented 20 percent of non-EV F-150 sales for Q2. Ford's diverse powertrain lineup offers gas, hybrid, and electric options that no competitor can match.

Ford's electric vehicle (EV) sales rose by 61 percent in Q2 with 23,957 units sold. For the first half of the year, total EV sales reached 44,180 units. The Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning are attracting new customers to Ford; 62 percent of F-150 Lightning buyers and 54 percent of Mustang Mach-E buyers are new to the brand.

The Mustang Mach-E saw a 46 percent increase in Q2 sales compared to last year and achieved its best performance since launch with a 58 percent rise in year-to-date sales. The F-150 Lightning remains America's top-selling electric truck with 15,645 units sold through June.

Record-Breaking Van Sales

Ford Transit continues to dominate as America's best-selling van, posting a record first half with 82,164 units sold—up 28 percent. Combined with E-Series vans, they accounted for half of the full-size commercial van segment in Q2. Additionally, Ford Pro Intelligence software subscriptions have grown by approximately 33 percent since last year.

The E-Transit also performed well with first-half sales more than doubling compared to last year. This electric van saw a 96 percent increase in Q2 sales alone.

SUVs and Lincoln Models Gain Traction

Ford-brand SUVs had a record-breaking first half with sales up by 3 percent to 406,467 units. The Explorer led this category as America's best-selling three-row SUV with 104,803 units sold. Escape and Expedition models also saw increases in their respective segments.

Lincoln experienced a strong Q2 driven by the all-new Nautilus SUV. Overall Lincoln sales rose by 19 percent during this period. The Nautilus hybrid accounted for nearly half of all Nautilus sales while Corsair and Aviator models also showed significant growth.

Enhanced Customer Services

Ford and Lincoln dealers have expanded their remote service offerings significantly. In the first six months of 2024 alone, there were 1.8 million Remote Service appointments—a staggering increase of 175 percent compared to the same period last year.

"From urban customers seeking small pickups like Maverick to businesses relying on Transit vans," said Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue. "Our distinctive lineup is resonating well." He added that hybrid and electric vehicles are driving growth alongside post-purchase experiences such as BlueCruise hands-free driving and remote servicing options.

Total vehicle sales for Ford increased by one percent year-over-year in Q2 while total truck sales rose five percent compared to last year—marking Ford’s best Q2 truck performance since 2019.

The company is poised for further growth with upcoming models like the new Explorer and Lincoln Aviator soon shipping to dealers along with extended-range E-Transit deliveries starting shortly.
