Ford Issues Critical Do-Not-Drive Advisory For Vehicles With Unresolved Takata Airbag Recalls
Ford has issued a do-not-drive advisory for certain vehicles that have not been repaired under three previous safety recalls. These recalls, identified as 15S21, 17S42, and 19S01, were initially announced in 2015. The advisory aims to prompt owners to complete the necessary recall repairs immediately due to the risk posed by Takata non-desiccated airbag inflators.
The affected vehicles include several Ford and Lincoln models equipped with these airbag inflators. Specifically, the advisory applies to driver and passenger airbag inflators in 2004-2006 Ford Ranger trucks, 2005-2014 Ford Mustang vehicles, and 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles. It also includes passenger airbag inflators in 2006-2012 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ/Zephyr vehicles, 2007-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, and 2007-2011 Ford Ranger trucks.

Globally, approximately 765,600 airbag inflators in Ford and Lincoln vehicles are affected by this issue. This includes around 374,300 units in the United States alone. The age of these vehicles increases the likelihood that a part inside the airbag could explode during a crash, potentially causing serious injury or death to occupants.
Ford has made extensive efforts to contact customers about these recalls. In the U.S., more than 121 million outreach attempts have been made through various channels such as letters, emails, phone calls, text messages, and over one million home visits. As a result of these efforts, 95% of U.S. customers have completed the Takata recalls.
Parts for the necessary repairs are currently available. Customers can request mobile service or have their vehicles towed directly to dealerships for repair at no cost. Additionally, dealerships will provide free interim loaner vehicles if needed. Ford continues to notify known owners monthly through multiple communication channels with updated do-not-drive advisory messages.
This is the second Takata-related do-not-drive recall advisory issued by Ford. The company stresses the importance of completing these recall repairs immediately due to the potential danger posed by defective airbags.
