Ford Everest To be Launched In India: Endeavour Replacement Is Bigger & Better
Ford Motor Company has recently announced plans of re-opening in India. Ford is going to relaunch the Endeavour in India, under the name Everest. Ford plans to import a few units of the Everest and to locally start assembly of the model at the Ford Plant in Chennai by 2025.
The Ford Endeavour is known as the Everest in global markets. Ford could not trademark the global name in India when they launched the first generation of the SUV in 2003, so they had to opt for the trademarked name “Endeavor”.

Recently Ford has been able to obtain and trademark the name “Everest”. Given the small volumes planned for India, Ford being able to use the name “Everest” will save the brand from having to invest in new branding and logos which will help keep costs lower.
Ford is yet to announce when they plan to start local production for the Everest at the manufacturing facility in Chennai. Ford has stated, “We cannot build the Everest in isolation as it has to fit into one integral production plan with other products too”. This could postpone manufacturing of the Everest till as late as 2026.
To combat the high demand in India, Ford plans to import a small number of manufactured Ford Everest, to bridge the gap until production starts.
Recently, there were spy shots released from Chennai of a few variants of the new Ford Everest on a trailer. The picture reveals the exterior of the SUV. We can see a ladder-frame SUV with a boxy front and large grilled, new Matrix-style LED headlights. Compared to the Endeavour, the Everest has a more squared-off stance.
If we look at the interior of the Everest seen in global markets, the model gets a beautiful vertical 12-inch, or 10.1-inch infotainment display with Ford SYNC software. Depending on the trim level. The Ford Everest also comes with advanced features like ADAS, nine airbags and other safety features.
While Ford has still not confirmed which variant will be available in India, Ford offers three different diesel engine options for the Everest, a 2.0-liter single turbo, a 2.0-liter twin turbo and a 3.0-litre V6.
In terms of transmission, there’s an option between a 6-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the trim level, the Everest comes in both 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive.
The Ford Everest is expected to rival cars like the Skoda Kodiaq, the MG Gloster and the Toyota Fortuna, along with other seven-seater SUVs.
DriveSpark Thinks
It is exciting to see Ford coming back to India, especially with a quality SUV like the Everest. Ford's return to India with the Everest SUV is a promising move, especially considering the growing demand for premium SUVs in the market.
Ford's decision to import a few units initially and then transition to local assembly is a smart strategic approach to meet the demand of customers.
