1957 Ferrari 335 S Triumphs As Best Of Show At Salon Privé Concours 2024

A stunning 1957 Ferrari 335 S clinched the Best of Show award at this year’s Salon Privé Concours, presented by Aviva Private Clients. American car enthusiast Brian Ross entered the Maranello sports-racer, which captivated spectators during the Tour Privé on 27 August and impressed the expert judging panel on the concours field the next day.

Chassis number 0674 had a remarkable racing history with Scuderia Ferrari in 1957. In March, Peter Collins and Maurice Trintignant drove it to sixth place in the Sebring 12 Hours. Two months later, Wolfgang von Trips finished second in the Mille Miglia. The car was upgraded to a 4.1-litre specification and set the fastest lap at Le Mans in June, driven by Mike Hawthorn and Luigi Musso.

Second place went to Lord Bamford’s 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Sport Saloon by Freestone & Webb. Originally ordered by Sir John Leigh, it was built for fast touring in Europe. The car remained in the UK until the late 1950s before spending 35 years with an American owner in Toledo, Ohio. Lord Bamford acquired it in 2013 and restored its original two-tone paint scheme.

The third-place winner was Nic and Shelley Schorsch’s 1927 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8AS Fleetwood Roadster. This significant vehicle was initially ordered by movie star Rudolph Valentino but was completed after his death. It featured unique coachwork designed by LeBaron of New York and built by Fleetwood Metal Body Company.

This year’s Salon Privé Concours featured a diverse range of entries from around the world. Seventy-two cars competed across fourteen classes, including pre-war categories and celebrations of Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, and Ferrari. Highlights included Legendary Liveries showcasing iconic colour schemes like a Silk Cut Jaguar XJR-8/9 and an Alitalia Lancia Stratos HF.

The event took place on Blenheim Palace's South Lawn, attracting entries from as far as the USA, Thailand, and New Zealand. Judging was conducted by an esteemed panel of international experts under the International Chief Judge Advisory Group (ICJAG). Salon Privé is one of only four ICJAG Plus-designated events globally and the sole one held in the UK.
