Most Expensive Number Plates In India: Plates As Expensive As Cars?

For the spiritual aspect of the lucky number or the additional status symbol, people in India have been seen paying lakhs, just to get a special number on their license plates. Here are a few special cases of vehicles that have hefty-priced number plates.

Toyota Fortuner

Ashik Patel, a man who was such a fan of James Bond, that there was nothing that would stop him from getting the registration number that he wanted, “007”. Ashik, on his Rs 30lakh Toyota Fortuner, spent a whopping Rs 34 lakhs on the registration.

Most Expensive Number Plates In India

Porsche 718 Boxster

K.S. Balagopal, a Kerala Businessman and the owner of a beautiful blue Porsche 718 Boxster spent one-third of the value of the car on its registration fees alone. The Rs 90lakh car then was registered with the license plate number KL 01CK0001 for Rs 31 lakhs.

Toyota Land Cruiser LC200

Along with the stunning blue Boxster, K.S. Balagopal also owns a Toyota LAN Cruiser LC200. Mr Balagopal wanted to register the LC200 with the same last digits as the Boxster, 0001, which he was required to pay Rs 18 lakhs to obtain.

Toyota Land Cruiser LC300

TG 09 9999, is the registration number that was bought for no less than Rs 25.5 lakh for a Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 which retails for an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.1 Crores. The Land Cruiser belongs to a businessman who resides out of Telangana.

Toyota Land Cruiser LC200

Another Toyota Land Cruiser, this one from Chandigarh, has a rather unique license plate. Rajit Singh, spent around Rs 17 lakhs in an auction, on the registration of his Land Cruiser, for the special plate of CH 01 AN 0001.

Jaguar XJ L

Rahul Taneja, a man who started as an auto driver and now is a successful businessman, spent nearly 16 lakhs on his registration for his Jaguar XJ L. The Plate number on the XJ L is RJ 45 CG 0001.

BMW 5-Series

Apart from the Jaguar, Rahul Taneja also owned a BMW 5-Series which was equipped with a similar license plate, RJ 14 CP 0001, which he had sold. Mr Rahul still retains that plate number which is currently being used on his 7-series. The 5-Series was registered for Rs 10.31 lakhs.

Rolls Royce Cullinan

Mukesh Ambani is known for owning one of the most famous car collections in India. Most recently, Mr Ambani has added a Rolls Royce Cullinan with the license plate number “0001”, to his collection.

This license plate number is normally around Rs 4 lakhs, but all the current series numbers were already taken. To obtain the registration number under special circumstances, Mukesh Ambani spent Rs 12 lakhs on the license plate number for the Cullinan.
