Euisun Chung Re-elected As President Of The Korea Archery Association For Another Term
Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, has been re-elected as the president of the Korea Archery Association (KAA) for a sixth term. His leadership since 2005 has significantly boosted Korean archery's international success. Chung's new term will span from January 2025 to January 2029, continuing his efforts to enhance the sport's competitiveness and global presence.
Under Chung's guidance, Korean archery has achieved remarkable milestones. The national team secured five gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, including an unprecedented ten consecutive wins in women's team events. This success is attributed to innovative training methods and advanced technologies introduced by Chung.
Chung's tenure has seen a rise in both competitive and recreational archery participation in Korea. The number of competitive archers increased from 1,633 in 2005 to 2,800 in 2024. Recreational archery also grew significantly, with 778 participants across 195 teams by 2024.
The KAA implemented cutting-edge training equipment like personal shooting robots and posture analysis systems to prepare athletes for major competitions. These advancements have played a crucial role in the team's historic achievements under Chung's leadership.
Hyundai Motor Group has been a long-standing supporter of Korean archery since Honorary Chairman Mong-Koo Chung's presidency in 1985. Euisun Chung continues this legacy with his re-election, ensuring further growth and development within the sport.
Global Influence and Achievements
Chung has also served as the president of the Asian Archery Federation since 2005, launching initiatives to promote archery across Asia. His efforts have strengthened Korea's influence in the international archery community.
The Korean national team has consistently excelled under Chung's leadership, winning a total of 18 gold, three silver, and four bronze medals across five Summer Olympics from 2008 to 2024. They have also performed well in other major competitions like the Asian Games and Archery World Cup.
Future Prospects for Korean Archery
Hyundai Motor Company signed a sponsorship agreement with the World Archery Federation until 2025. This partnership aims to expand archery's global reach through events like the Hyundai Archery World Cup and Hyundai World Archery Championships.
The KAA election committee acknowledged Chung for enhancing Korean archery through improved administrative operations and financial independence. His corporate management practices have fostered public interest and support for the sport.
The KAA is now one of Korea's most stable sports organizations due to Chung’s leadership. His vision includes nurturing talent and expanding archery’s presence both locally and globally.
