Electrify America Expands Technology Campus To Enhance EV Charging Network Quality
Electrify America has inaugurated the Electrify America Technology Campus near its headquarters in Northern Virginia. This new facility, covering over 32,000 square feet, includes 22 Hyper-Fast chargers and a Technology Development Lab. The expanded space allows for advanced testing to ensure equipment reliability in various real-world scenarios. This campus is part of Electrify America's ecosystem that enhances customer experience through continuous support and maintenance.
The facility features two labs: the Center of Excellence and the Technology Development Lab. The Center of Excellence, established in 2018, focuses on hardware testing for current chargers and battery systems. It also conducts interoperability tests with automakers, involving over 35,000 hours of testing with more than 25 automakers and 40 vehicle models. Software and firmware are tested against industry standards to ensure performance.
The Technology Development Lab is dedicated to enhanced validation and product qualification testing. It performs stress tests, maximum power delivery assessments, and environmental evaluations. Additionally, it conducts benchtop testing of product components to gather insights for future developments. These efforts aim to improve the quality and reliability of EV charging experiences across North America.
Electrify America's network has seen significant growth in customer charging sessions, with over 10 million sessions recorded in 2023 compared to previous years. The new facility plays a crucial role in enhancing the EV charging experience by serving as a hub for collaborations with automakers and conducting quality and conformance testing.
Since the original Center of Excellence opened in 2018, extensive testing has accelerated the deployment of technologies like Hyper-Fast 350 kW charging and Plug&Charge capabilities. Electrify America also introduced liquid-cooled cables for faster charging speeds. The company collaborates with industry groups to develop standards that enhance the charging experience for all EV drivers while ensuring its network remains future-ready through ongoing investments.
