Electric G-Class Escorts Claret Jug Back To The Open In Sustainable Style
Brian Harman, the winner of The 151st Open, returned the Claret Jug to The Open in a new electric G-Class vehicle. He handed it over to Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A, which organises the Championship. Mercedes-Benz has been an official Patron of The Open since 2011 and provides a shuttle fleet for selected guests, players, and officials.
During the 152nd edition of The Open, Mercedes-Benz will offer an exclusive shuttle fleet featuring hybrid and all-electric vehicles. This service is available for selected guests, players, and officials. Additionally, the official app for The Open will be integrated into Mercedes-Benz vehicles. This feature allows customers to follow the Championship in real time while on the road.
Mercedes-Benz celebrates the start of The 152nd Open in an iconic manner. Ahead of the first tee-off, the defending champion brings back the iconic golf trophy for the ‘Return of the Claret Jug’ in a Mercedes-Benz vehicle. "The ‘Return of the Claret Jug’ by the defending champion is a symbolic moment in the week of The Open," said Martin Slumbers.
The integration of The Open's official app into Mercedes-Benz vehicles is a special highlight this year. It enables customers to experience the Championship in a completely new way at any time. Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Marketing & Sales, stated: "Our partnership with The Open reflects our shared values of tradition and innovation."
The 152nd edition will mark the tenth time The Open has been held at Troon on Scotland's west coast. Scheduled from 14 to 21 July 2024, it is notable as the only golf major played outside the USA. Troon last hosted this prestigious event in 2016.

Mercedes-Benz has been accompanying The Open for thirteen years as an Official Patron. To celebrate this long-standing partnership with The R&A, a unique campaign was created in St Andrews. This campaign highlights a clash of cultures inspired by lifestyle and sport, combining Mercedes-Benz brand history with fashion and golf.
