Dodge Hornet R/T FC1-X Driver Andres Bakkerud Records Double Wins In Utah Nitrocross Series
Andres Bakkerud, despite battling strep throat and a high fever, achieved a remarkable "clean sweep" in the Nitrocross Series at Utah Motorsports Campus. Driving his Monster Energy Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Dodge Hornet R/T FC1-X electric racecar, Bakkerud secured two Group E feature victories, leading a Dodge 1-2 finish each day. These wins marked Bakkerud's first in over a year and the second and third for the new Dodge brand in the 2024-25 campaign.
Bakkerud excelled on the challenging 1.732-mile course near Salt Lake City, featuring both pavement and dirt, with a 100-foot gap jump and high-banked turns. He began the weekend by setting the fastest lap and winning his heat race, semifinal, and final on Saturday. His No. 13 Dodge Hornet R/T FC1-X finished with a one-second lead over teammates Robin Larsson and Oliver Eriksson.
On Sunday, Bakkerud replicated his performance by winning preliminary rounds and taking the lead from his front-row start in the finale. He maintained a two-second margin over Larsson at the checkered flag to complete an impressive doubleheader sweep. "It’s been tough times, and this year was all about getting back and having fun again," said Bakkerud.
Larsson's two runner-up finishes propelled him back into the Group E points lead as the series moves to Firebird Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona, for rounds five and six on November 15-16. "Overall, those were such tough finals to drive," said Larsson. "It was terrible, but I just followed Bakkerud." He added that consistency is key for him as he chases another championship.
In addition to Bakkerud and Larsson's success, their DRR Dodge teammates Fraser McConnell of Jamaica and local star Lia Block also secured top-five finishes. McConnell placed fourth on Saturday while Block finished fifth on Sunday. "That was the craziest final for me on Sunday," said Block from Park City, Utah.
DRR team owner Dennis Reinbold expressed satisfaction with the team's performance at Utah's demanding track. "We knew that the Utah track is the most demanding course we run during the Nitrocross season," Reinbold stated. He praised Bakkerud's resilience despite illness and highlighted Larsson's strong showing.
