Delhi Increases Pollution Check Fees For All Vehicles: Prices Updated After 13 Years
The Delhi government has revised pollution-checking rates for all vehicles, effective immediately. The new rates apply to two, three, and four-wheelers powered by petrol, CNG, or LPG. For two and three-wheelers, the cost is now ₹80. Four-wheelers will be charged ₹110, while diesel vehicles face a higher fee of ₹140.
Revised Rates After 13 Years
This change marks the first revision in 13 years. The decision was influenced by rising costs associated with pollution-checking services. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot stated that the revision addresses long-standing demands from the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association.
Gahlot explained, "In response to the long-pending demands of the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association and to keep up with the rising costs of pollution checking services, we have decided to revise the rates. We remain committed to maintaining Delhi's air quality and ensuring that all vehicles meet the required pollution standards."
Detailed Breakdown of New Charges
The previous rate for petrol, CNG, or LPG two and three-wheelers was ₹60; it is now ₹80. For four-wheelers using these fuels, the rate increased from ₹80 to ₹110. Diesel vehicle owners will see the highest increase, from ₹100 to ₹140 for their PUC certificates.
The validity of a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate varies based on vehicle type. New vehicles receive a one-year validity period for their initial PUC certificate. After this period, car and two-wheeler owners must renew their certificates every six months.
Ensuring Compliance
Failure to maintain a valid PUC certificate can result in hefty fines. In Delhi, an expired PUC certificate incurs a penalty of ₹10,000. This measure aims to ensure compliance and contribute to better air quality in the city.
Recent weather conditions have temporarily improved Delhi's air quality index (AQI). Following rain and wind over recent days, the city's AQI stood at 185.0, indicating moderate air quality.
The revised rates reflect an effort by authorities to balance service costs while maintaining environmental standards. Vehicle owners are urged to comply with these regulations to support ongoing efforts to improve air quality.
