Dallas Chooses Ford Pro To Boost EV Charging Infrastructure For A Greener Future

DALLAS, Texas, May 21, 2024 – The City of Dallas, America’s fourth-largest metro area, has selected Ford’s commercial division, Ford Pro™, to advance its climate goals by electrifying the city’s vehicle fleet by 2040. This 10-year agreement aims to enhance EV charging infrastructure for the city’s fleet operations.

As part of the agreement, Dallas will install Ford Pro chargers at city worksites and utilise Ford Pro smart charging software to manage EV charging performance. This integrated solution ensures fleet vehicles are optimally charged and ready for use. In 2020, Dallas approved a Comprehensive Environmental & Climate Action Plan (CECAP) to reduce carbon emissions by installing EV chargers and adding light-duty EVs to its 5,400-vehicle fleet.

Dallas and Ford Pro's Green Initiative

"The City of Dallas is committed to a clean, safe, and healthy environment," said Mayor Eric L. Johnson. "This agreement with Ford Pro marks a significant milestone and will help our city avoid energy waste and save on energy costs. We look forward to scaling EV charging infrastructure and electrifying our fleet operations."

Ford Pro's Role

Ford Pro CEO Ted Cannis stated, "EV adoption is on the rise with state and local government fleets. We’re proud to provide smart charging software and hardware to help electrify one of the Lone Star State's biggest cities." Cannis highlighted the substantial impact software can have on managing charging infrastructure and determining future needs.

Public Sector Trends

State and local governments in the U.S. operate four million vehicles. The federal government aims for most federal vehicle purchases to be zero-emission by 2035, a trend likely to be mirrored by state and local governments. Ford Pro Charging already serves hundreds of local government customers, reflecting a growing trend towards EV adoption driven by rising fuel costs and potentially lower operational costs.
