Dakar 2024 Stage 10 Results: Noah's At It Again As Brabec & Chicherit Win
Stage 10 of Dakar 2024 saw Honda's Ricky Brabec, the overall leader in the bikes category and Overdrive Racing's Guerlain Chicherit win as India's Harith Noah created history once again at the Dakar. Noah claimed another stage win in the Rally 2 class as he ended the stage in 5th, his best-ever finish
Today's stage saw riders and drivers cover a 612-kilometre-long loop around the city of Alula. Competitors encountered dirt tracks along with the usual sandy terrain and a few dried lake beds (chott to the locals) as they faced a 371km timed special stage.
Bikes
The top spot on the podium at the end of stage 10 of Dakar 294 was claimed by overall leader Ricky Brabec. The American rider ended the stage in 03:51:39, just two seconds ahead of Honda teammate 'Nacho' Florimo.
Yesterday's winner and fellow Honda Adrien Van Beveren ended the stage in third place helping the Japanese manufacturer claim a 1-2-3 for the second day in a row. The French rider ended the day just 20 seconds behind Brabec. Another 20 seconds behind Van Beveren was Aussie GasGas rider Daniel Sanders.
In fifth place overall and the fastest of the Rally 2 class riders was India's Harith Noah. The Sherco TVS Factory rider had a stunning day on the sands of Saudi Arabia and at one time was leading the stage.
When the stage finally ended, Noah was one minute and 55 seconds behind overall Stage winner Brabec. In the Rally 2 class, Noah finished 04:17 ahead of his nearest rival Doveze and 06:27 ahead of Lepan in third.
Hero's Ross Branch once again lost time to Brabec with the Botswanan rider ending the day in seventh place, 03:45 behind Brabec. Sherco's Rui Goncalves ended the day in 11th place. The Portuguese rider ended the day, 08:02 behind Brabec.
In the overall standings, Brabec extended his lead over Branch to 10 minutes and 54 seconds. Branch is now in danger of losing second place with Honda's Adrien van Beveren just 52 seconds behind the Kalahari Ferrari's Hero.
India's Harith Noah has now risen to 12th in the overall standings and the rider from Kerala is 02:37:46 behind Brabec's Honda. In the Rally 2 rankings after stage 10, Noah is in 2nd overall, just 4:31 seconds behind Romain Dumontier's Husqvarna Rally Replica. With two stages to go, Noah has a good chance of catching up and even getting ahead of his French rival.
Noah's teammate, Portiugal's Rui Goncalves dropped down two places to 24th overall. The Portuguese rider is 06:37:22 behind Brabec thanks to his issues on the two-day Stage 6.
Cars
In the cars category, it was a new face atop the podium with Overdrive Racing's Guerlain Chicherit claiming his 9th career win at the Dakar today, finishing Stage 10 in 03:19:27.
In second place is the Century Racing Team's Brian Baragwanath. The South African driver ended the stage 05:43 behind Chicherit's Toyota Hilux. The final podium spot was occupied by Lithuania's Benediktas Vanagas with the Toyota Gazoo Baltics driver ending the day 06:04 adrift of Chicherit.
Stephane Peterhansel was the fastest of the three Audi's in 16th place, ending the stage 17:13 behind the winner. 24 seconds behind Mr Dakar was his fellow countryman Sebastien Loeb who ended the day in 17th place, 17:37 behind.
Audi's Carlos Sainz managed to keep the damage done by his French rival down to just over seven minutes as he ended the day in 21st place.
Sainz had a big scare on the stage when he came to a halt and lost quite a few minutes to Loeb, but help from his teammates and his rival having a stoppage of his own means that Sainz is still in first place overall with a time of 41:35:12.
Sebastien Loeb has cut down El Matador's lead to just 13:22 and still has a chance to win his maiden Dakar rally if he keeps his foot planted to the floor. Brazil's Lucas Moraes is third overall, 01:02:44 behind Sainz.
Thoughts About Dakar 2024 Stage 10
The 10th stage of Dakar 2024 saw the Sherco TVS rider show off his pace as he rewrote the history books once again by claiming the top honours in Rally 2 and causing a bit of panic among the Rally GP riders by sprinting ahead near the end of the stage.
However, it was business as usual for Honda Ricky Babec as he led a Honda 1-2-3 to extend his lead over Hero's Ross Branch to nearly 11 minutes. Branch is less than a minute ahead of Honda's Van Beveren and will have to really get his act together if wants to win the Dakar with just 2 stages to go.
In the cars category despite not being anywhere near the podium, Sebastien Loeb cut down Carlos Sainz's lead by a very sizeable margin. If continues the pace he showed today over the final two stages, the French WRC legend has a good chance of overcoming El Matador.
Tomorrow's stage will see competitors head out from Alula to the final city in this year's Dakar, the coastal city of Yanbu. Competitors will cover a total of 587 kilometres of most barren and rugged terrain which includes a 480km long special stage.
