Dacia Sandero Claims Title As Europe’s Best-Selling New Car In 2024
The Dacia Sandero has emerged as Europe’s top-selling new car. In the first half of 2024, it achieved global sales of 164,789 units, marking an 18.5% increase from the previous year. This surge underscores the growing demand and confidence in this affordable supermini.
Since its debut in 2008, over 3.1 million units of the Sandero have been sold. This success highlights Dacia's strategy of offering essential features in a modern, robust, and affordable package. The Sandero has consistently resonated with a broad customer base.
Despite being the UK's best value new car, starting at £13,795 on-the-road, the Dacia Sandero is well-equipped. It includes air conditioning, cruise control with a speed limiter, electric front windows, and a comprehensive range of safety aids. Additionally, Dacia’s Media Control system integrates smartphones into the infotainment setup.
At the top of the Sandero Stepway range is the rugged Extreme model. It features Copper Brown exterior details and interior highlights. Keyless entry, automatic wipers, parking sensors with a reversing camera, electronic parking brake, automatic air conditioning, blind spot warning, and an Extended Grip system are among its advanced features.
Both models showcase Dacia's innovative thinking. For instance, the Sandero Stepway’s patented modular roof bars can convert into a roof rack capable of carrying up to 80kg. Another clever feature is the ‘My Safety’ button that allows drivers to deactivate certain ADAS functions easily.
Dacia's Market Presence
Dacia was founded in 1968 and relaunched by Renault Group in 2004 across Europe and Mediterranean countries. The brand focuses on providing value for money by redefining automotive essentials. Dacia offers simple, multi-purpose cars that align with customers' lifestyles.
The brand's models have set market standards: Sandero has been Europe’s best-selling retail car since 2017; Duster has been the top SUV for European private customers since 2018; Jogger serves as a versatile family car in the C-segment; and Spring is noted as the UK’s most affordable electric car.
Present in 44 countries, Dacia has sold over 8 million vehicles since its relaunch in 2004. The brand entered the UK market in January 2013 and experienced unprecedented success for a new car brand there. To date, more than 250,000 Dacia vehicles have been sold in the UK.
The continuous success of models like Sandero demonstrates that Dacia's approach to offering practical and affordable cars remains highly effective and appealing to consumers worldwide.
