CNG Showdown: Maruti Suzuki Swift Vs Hyundai Grand i10 Vs Tata Punch
Maruti Suzuki has been actively launching CNG vehicles over the past few years. Recently, they introduced a CNG variant of the popular Swift model in India. This new Swift CNG competes with Hyundai Motors' Grand i10 Nios CNG and Tata Punch CNG. This article will compare these three CNG cars, highlighting their similarities and differences.
Powertrain
The Swift CNG is equipped with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. This engine generates a maximum power of 69.75 hp and 101.8 Nm of torque, coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission.

In contrast, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG features a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 69 hp and 95.2 Nm of torque. The Tata Punch CNG also has a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine but offers slightly higher power at 73.5 hp and 103 Nm of torque. Both Hyundai and Tata models come with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Mileage
CNG cars are known for their dual-fuel capability, running on both compressed natural gas (CNG) and petrol, with better mileage on CNG. Maruti Suzuki claims the Swift CNG delivers 32.85 km/kg on CNG and 24.8 kmpl on petrol.

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG offers an average mileage of 27 km/kg on CNG and 20.7 kmpl on petrol. Tata Punch CNG provides a mileage of 26.99 km/kg on CNG and 20.09 kmpl on petrol. These figures are based on ARAI tests, but real-world mileage may be slightly lower.
Price Range
The ex-showroom price for the new Swift CNG ranges from ₹8.20 lakh to ₹9.20 lakh, available in three variants. Hyundai's Grand i10 Nios CNG is offered in four variants, with prices between ₹7.68 lakh and ₹8.30 lakh ex-showroom.

Tata Punch CNG comes in five variants, starting at ₹7.23 lakh ex-showroom. On-road prices may increase by approximately ₹1 lakh due to additional costs like RTO charges and insurance.
DriveSpark Thinks
All three cars discussed here are budget-friendly and visually appealing options in the CNG segment. However, there is a notable difference in technology; both the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Punch use dual-cylinder technology, whereas the new Swift CNG continues with single-cylinder technology.
These comparisons provide a clear picture of what each car offers in terms of engine performance, mileage, and pricing, helping potential buyers make an informed decision based on their preferences and requirements.
