Vintage Motorcycle Gems To Sparkle At National Auction

A highly anticipated auction featuring over 200 classic motorcycles will take place on 3 July at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull. The event, organised by H&H Classics, promises a diverse range of motorcycles spanning various eras and conditions. Among the highlights is a rare barn find, a 1951 Vincent Black Shadow Series C, which has been off the road since the late 1970s.

The Vincent Black Shadow Series C, discovered in remarkable condition, is expected to draw significant interest. It has been confirmed by the Vincent Owners Club to have factory-correct number status. The bike comes with an extensive history file, including sale receipts from 1955 and engineer reports. This unique find is estimated to fetch between £25,000-30,000.

In addition to the barn find, three other Vincent Black Shadows will be featured in the auction. These include a 1950 model with subtle upgrades (estimated at £32,000-38,000), a 1952 Series C with correct factory numbers from 20 years of ownership (estimated between £28,000-32,000), and a 1955 Series D from long-term family ownership (estimated at £26,000-28,000).

Another standout lot is a 1929 Brough Superior SS100. Known as 'the mysterious SS100,' it was first registered in 1944 and features what is believed to be a prototype frame. This rare motorcycle carries an estimate of £240,000-280,000.

The auction also includes a c.1922 D.S. Malterre, the only known survivor of its kind. This Indian V-twin-powered motorcycle has been superbly restored and displayed at the Goodwood Revival. It is estimated to sell for £22,000-26,000.

A more modern entry is the 1968 Godet 1330GT with a Vincent engine. Built to the vendor's specifications by Patrick Godet, this bespoke motorcycle is estimated between £48,000-52,000. Due to limited use because of work commitments, the vendor feels it’s time for a new owner.

Patriotic Collectibles

A special highlight for patriotic buyers is a 1977 Triumph T140D Silver Jubilee. Described by H&H’s Mike Davis as the best example he has ever seen, this limited-edition model was produced to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee. With only 14 miles on the clock and meticulously maintained, it carries an estimate of £8,000-10,000.

The oldest lot in the sale is a 1913 Douglas 2¾-hp motorcycle. Discovered in fine original condition in the 1980s after many years off the road, it received a Pioneer certificate in 1983 and has participated in numerous Pioneer Runs. This historic bike is estimated at £7,00-9,000.

Mike Davis of H&H Classics expressed his excitement about offering such an impressive collection: "We’re incredibly excited to be offering such a wonderful collection of classic motorcycles and vintage scooters at our next two-wheel auction." He added that enthusiasts from various eras would find something fascinating among these rare and special bikes.

All lots will be available for viewing on Tuesday afternoon from 12pm – 6pm at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull before the sale begins at 1pm on Wednesday.

Bidders can participate in person or through online platforms via telephone or commission bids. For more details about the auction and all lots on offer, visit www.handh.co.uk.
