Citroen India Unveils BASALT: A New Era Of SUV Coupe Elegance And Practicality
Citroën India has unveiled the first images of the Citroen BASALT, a new model that introduces India's first mainstream SUV Coupé. This vehicle seamlessly combines the dynamic elegance of a Coupé with the robust practicality of an SUV, offering a unique driving experience. Citroen aims to make mobility accessible by focusing on comfort, efficiency, and simplicity in their customer experience.
The Citroën BASALT features a striking Coupé silhouette with smooth, flowing lines that convey motion even when stationary. The roofline extends to the trunk lid, enhancing accessibility while maintaining Coupé aesthetics. Strong fenders improve the car's stance and provide force around the wheels, while geometric wheel arches add a robust character.
Design Philosophy and Key Elements
Pierre Leclercq, Head of Citroën Design, explained the design philosophy behind the BASALT: "The New Citroën BASALT is a new type of silhouette, complementing C3 and C3 Aircross in India. It brings together the best of two worlds: the robustness and versatility of an SUV, the roominess and efficiency of a Coupé. The proportions of BASALT mix the strength of SUV codes, with its fenders and claddings, while its fastback silhouette brings out the elegance of a Coupé. The falling roofline is also a nod to iconic models, such as the CX (1974) and more recently, the popular C4."
The sculpted clamshell bonnet adds a muscular yet elegant touch to the front, enhancing its dynamic stance. The logo connects with the light signature through glossy black detailing with chrome inserts. Air intake grilles are linked by 3D-effect modules for added strength. Body colour around both grilles adds sophistication and visually widens the vehicle.
SUV Codes and Attention to Detail
The tailgate design increases perceived width and adds to a sense of space with its horizontal wing effect continuing at the rear. Floating blades integrated into the tail lamp visually widen the look, while vertical aerodynamic edges in corners assert efficiency and SUV character.
The silver skid plates on the lower area of the front and rear bumpers feature a technical signature that protects the vehicle while blending style with functionality. Front headlights with X-Shaped Split DRLs are unmistakably Citroën signature. These innovative headlights combine with LED-Vision projector headlamps integrated into lower parts exclusively on BASALT.
Rear headlights include three light stripes affirming Citroën's new light signature. Their perceived depth combined with gradient lines creates a magical effect. Colour clips near rear windows and on front bumper add discrete elegance and contrast to BASALT's bodystyle—a hallmark of Citroën's design DNA.
