Citroen C5 Aircross Base Variant Discontinued: Prices Now Start At Rs 39.99 Lakh

In a surprising move, Citroen has made the decision to stop offering the entry-level Feel variant of its C5 Aircross SUV, which was previously listed at Rs 36.91 lakh. Now, the SUV can only be purchased in the Shine trim, which boasts a full suite of features and carries a price tag of Rs 39.99 lakh in the Indian market.

This adjustment has resulted in the starting price of the C5 Aircross being elevated by Rs 3.08 lakh. Despite the discontinuation, Citroen has introduced enticing year-end offers, providing potential savings of up to Rs 1.75 lakh on select MY2023 units.

The base Feel trim was noted for missing several upscale amenities, including a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, powered tailgate, traction control, and hill-descent control. Additionally, it came with a smaller infotainment display and used different materials for its upholstery and trim detailing.

On the other hand, the more premium Shine trim not only includes all these features but also offers the choice of optional dual-tone paint schemes at no extra cost, making it an appealing option for those seeking a luxury SUV experience.

Underneath its polished exterior, the Citroen C5 Aircross houses a robust 2.0-litre diesel engine capable of delivering 177hp and a torque of 400Nm. This engine is coupled with an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission, ensuring a smooth and responsive driving experience. Citroen claims the vehicle achieves an impressive fuel efficiency of 17.5kpl, highlighting the SUV's blend of performance and economy.

In October, the brand globally unveiled a concept for the next-generation C5 Aircross, signaling a future evolution of the model. However, there are currently no plans to launch this next-gen variant in the Indian market anytime soon, leaving the Shine trim as the sole option for Indian customers.

In the broader automobile market, there are developments that signal future shifts, such as Volvo's rebranding of the XC40 Recharge to the EX40, now priced at Rs 56.10 lakh, and the announcement from Skoda-Volkswagen about the introduction of a new 8-speed automatic transmission in 2026.

DriveSpark Thinks

Citroen's C5 Aircross, with its sole Shine trim offering, remains a compelling option for luxury SUV buyers in India. Its potent diesel engine, comprehensive feature set, and the recent price adjustment position it as a noteworthy contender in its class. The year-end benefits further enhance its attractiveness, though the discontinuation of the Feel trim simplifies the model lineup.
