Citroen C3 Automatic Vs Rivals: Features & Pricing Comparison

The Citroen C3 now offers an automatic gearbox option, introduced over two years after its launch in India. This new feature is available only in the top-spec Shine variant, with prices ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 10.27 lakh. Competing models like the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, and Maruti Ignis also offer automatic gearboxes, but they use a different technology.

Powertrain Comparison: Citroen C3 vs Rivals

The C3 stands out with its 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, delivering 110hp and 205Nm of torque. It uses a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. In contrast, its competitors—Punch, Exter, and Ignis—feature naturally aspirated petrol engines paired with 5-speed automated manual transmissions (AMTs). AMTs are essentially manual gearboxes with electronic actuators managing clutch and gear shifts.

While AMTs are known for their fuel efficiency, they often lack smoothness compared to torque converters. Torque converters use hydraulic fluids for power transfer, offering smoother shifts but generally being less fuel-efficient and more costly than AMTs.

Dimensions and Features: Citroen C3 vs Competitors

The Citroen C3 measures 3981mm in length, making it the longest among its peers. The Tata Punch is the widest at 1,742mm, while the Hyundai Exter is the tallest at 1,631mm. The C3 boasts a wheelbase of 2,540mm—the longest in this comparison. Notably, only the Punch features 16-inch alloy wheels; others have 15-inch wheels.

Recent updates to the C3 include LED projector headlamps, auto-folding ORVMs, auto climate control, and six airbags. However, it lacks an electric sunroof found in both the Punch and Exter. The Punch has also been updated with features like a centre armrest and rear AC vents.

Price Analysis: Citroen C3 vs Rivals

The C3 automatic's pricing starts at Rs 10 lakh for the Shine variant and goes up to Rs 10.27 lakh for the Shine Dual Tone Vibe Pack variant. This makes it the most expensive starting price among its competitors due to its torque converter technology. Despite this, it remains India's least expensive torque converter automatic vehicle.

In comparison, the Maruti Ignis is priced between Rs 6.83 lakh and Rs 8.06 lakh, making it the most affordable option here. Meanwhile, Hyundai's Exter tops out at Rs 10.43 lakh for its SX (O) Connect AMT Knight edition.

DriveSpark Thinks

The introduction of an automatic gearbox in the Citroen C3 adds value to this model by providing smoother driving experiences compared to its rivals' AMT systems. While it comes at a higher cost initially due to its advanced technology, it offers unique advantages that could appeal to many buyers seeking comfort and performance.
