Citroen Basalt Vs C3 Aircross: Specification & Features Comparison
Citroen's Basalt and C3 Aircross models, while in the same segment, exhibit distinct differences in design, features, and powertrain options. The Basalt is Citroen's fourth offering under the C-cubed programme for India. Despite its close relation to the C3 Aircross SUV, there are notable variations between the two models.
C3 Aircross Vs Basalt: Dimensions
The Basalt has a smaller wheelbase compared to the C3 Aircross. It measures 4,352mm in length, 1,765mm in width, and 1,593mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,651mm. This makes its wheelbase 20mm shorter than that of the C3 Aircross. However, its overall length has increased by 29mm due to a redesigned rear end. Additionally, it is 31mm narrower and 76mm shorter in height than the C3 Aircross.

Despite having a sloping roofline, the Basalt offers more boot space at 470 litres compared to the 5-seater versions of the C3 Aircross which have 444 litres of boot space. The Basalt rides on smaller 16-inch wheels as opposed to the C3 Aircross' 17-inch units and has a ground clearance reduced by 20mm at 180mm.
C3 Aircross Vs Basalt: Features
All feature omissions that plagued the C3 Aircross were addressed with the Basalt. These upgrades have also been incorporated into the C3 Aircross. Features such as LED projector headlamps, an auto AC unit, powered mirror adjustments, relocation of power window buttons to doors, a front sliding centre armrest and floor-mounted rear AC vents are now available on both models.

However, some features remain exclusive to the Basalt. These include a wireless charger, adjustable thigh support for rear seats and contoured headrests for rear seats. The Basalt's dashboard also boasts soft-touch materials while the C3 Aircross additionally gets a roof-mounted AC vent for its 7-seater versions.
C3 Aircross Vs Basalt: Powertrain
The Basalt also introduces an additional powertrain option. While both models share a 110hp, 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine along with 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes, the Basalt also offers an 82hp naturally aspirated version of this engine available only with a manual gearbox. Although this engine's specs are not class-leading, it helps achieve an aggressive starting price for the Basalt.

C3 Aircross Vs Basalt: Pricing Advantage
The introductory prices for the Basalt start from Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), significantly undercutting not only its segment but also the C3 Aircross by Rs 2 lakh. The full price list for the Basalt is expected to be revealed later this month and could still maintain a price advantage over its SUV counterpart.
