Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV India Launch Tomorrow: Tata Curvv Rival
Citroen is set to launch the new Basalt coupe-SUV on August 9. This model will join the Tata Curvv in a fresh niche of midsize coupe-SUVs. The Basalt, part of Citroen's C-cubed program, offers a coupe-styled alternative to the C3 Aircross SUV. It introduces several feature upgrades previously absent in Citroen models.
Citroen Basalt: Powertrain and Specifications
The Basalt will be available with two petrol engine options: an 82hp naturally aspirated unit and a 110hp turbo-petrol engine. The naturally aspirated engine produces 115Nm of torque and is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The turbo-petrol engine, on the other hand, can be mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox (producing 190Nm) or a 6-speed torque converter automatic (generating 205Nm).

Fuel efficiency figures for the Basalt are competitive. Citroen claims that the naturally aspirated petrol engine achieves 18kpl, while the turbo-petrol manual offers 19.5kpl. The turbo-petrol automatic variant delivers a fuel efficiency of 18.7kpl.
Citroen Basalt: Features
The top-spec variants of the Basalt come loaded with features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Additionally, it includes a 15W wireless smartphone charger, connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, front armrest with storage space, and adjustable thigh support for the rear bench seat.

In terms of safety, all variants of the Basalt are equipped with six airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), hill-hold assist, and a tyre pressure monitor as standard features. However, it lacks some amenities like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, powered front seats, and an ADAS suite that some competitors offer.
Rivals In The Midsize SUV Segment
The Citroen Basalt will compete directly with the upcoming Tata Curvv, which is scheduled to launch on September 2, 2024. Other rivals in the midsize SUV segment include popular models like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Honda Elevate. The Basalt aims to stand out with its distinctive coupe styling compared to traditional midsize SUVs.

The introduction of the Citroen Basalt marks an exciting addition to the midsize SUV market in India. With its unique design and feature-rich offerings, it seeks to carve out its own space among established competitors.
