Citroen Basalt To Be Launched This Month: A New Contender In The Coupe SUV Market

Citroen will announce prices for the new Basalt coupe-SUV in August. This model is the fourth under the C-cubed program, offering a coupe-styled alternative to the C3 Aircross SUV. The Basalt introduces features previously absent in Citroen models and will be available with two petrol engine options.

Citroen Basalt Powertrain and Specifications

The Basalt is powered by two 1.2-litre petrol engines. One is an 82hp, 115Nm naturally aspirated unit, while the other is a 110hp turbo-petrol engine. The turbo-petrol can be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox (producing 190Nm) or a 6-speed torque converter automatic (generating 205Nm). The naturally aspirated engine comes with a 5-speed manual only.

Fuel efficiency figures for the Basalt are notable. Citroen claims the naturally aspirated petrol achieves 18kpl, the turbo-petrol manual reaches 19.5kpl, and the turbo-petrol automatic delivers 18.7kpl.

Features of Citroen Basalt

The top-spec variants of the Basalt come well-equipped. They include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15W wireless smartphone charger, connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, front armrest with storage space, and adjustable thigh support for the rear bench seat.

Safety features are comprehensive across all variants. These include six airbags, ESP, hill-hold assist, and a tyre pressure monitor as standard. However, it lacks some features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, powered front seats, and an ADAS suite that competitors offer.

Citroen Basalt Rivals

The Basalt's main competitor will be the upcoming Tata Curvv, which also launches on August 7. Other rivals include midsize SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Honda Elevate. The Basalt offers a unique look compared to these traditional midsize SUVs.

Although Citroen is expected to reveal only the starting price initially, the full price list will be announced later. This strategic move aims to generate interest ahead of its official launch date.
