The Quail Motorsports Gathering Honours Historic Anniversaries In 2024 Event
The world’s leading motorsports event returns this August, featuring over 200 exceptional cars, OEM vehicle debuts, and world-class food and wine. More than 200 of the finest cars will grace the greens at Carmel’s The Quail Golf Club on Friday, August 16, for the 21st annual The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. This highlight of Monterey Car Week includes a family- and pet-friendly garden party with five gourmet culinary pavilions, music, and live entertainment.
This year's celebration will spotlight four featured classes: Tribute to World Rally Cars, 50th Anniversary of the Porsche 911 Turbo (930), 30th Anniversary of Koenigsegg Automotive, and 100 Years of MG. In addition to these classes, more than a dozen renowned automakers will unveil new vehicles and showcase unique models from various eras.
The Tribute to World Rally Cars class honours the second oldest FIA racing series after Formula 1. Established in 1973, the World Rally Championship is known for its challenging multi-day events on diverse surfaces like gravel, tarmac, snow, and ice. A notable display includes a 1983 Lancia Abarth 037 driven by Walter Röhrl to win both the Monte Carlo Rally and that year’s championship.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Koenigsegg Automotive was founded by Christian von Koenigsegg in 1994. Known for producing some of the fastest and most advanced hypercars globally, standout models at this year’s event include a unique 2005 Koenigsegg CCR and a one-of-one 2007 Koenigsegg CCGT GT1 Competition Coupé.
The Porsche 911 Turbo (930) marks its 50th anniversary this year. Introduced as the fastest German production car in 1975, it remains a favourite among collectors. Two exceptional examples on display include a rare early production model from France and another without the iconic rear spoiler.
MG's Centennial Celebration
British automotive icon MG celebrates its centennial this year. Founded in the 1920s, MG defined modern sports cars with its open-top two-seaters cherished by spirited drivers. Highlights include a rare custom coachwork model from Basel-based Carrosserie Reinbolt & Christé and a historic MG TC driven by Carroll Shelby to his first road racing victory.
Kai Lermen, managing director of The Quail Golf Club, expressed excitement about hosting such a distinguished motorsports celebration for over two decades. "The Peninsula Signature Events team looks forward to celebrating some iconic automotive anniversaries this year with Porsche, Koenigsegg and MG," he said. "We are honoured to embark on our third decade hosting one of the world’s most distinguished motorsports celebrations."
