Caitlin Clark Named Collegiate Woman Athlete Of The Year Again

Caitlin Clark, a senior guard from the University of Iowa, was honoured as the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. She received the prestigious Honda Cup during the 48th anniversary broadcast of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda on CBS Sports Network. This year’s event took place in New York City for the first time after being held in Los Angeles for 12 years.

Clark is only the fourth athlete to win multiple Honda Cups, joining Tracy Caulkins, Maya Moore, and Rachel Garcia. "Congratulations to this year's Honda Cup winner Caitlin Clark and the entire CWSA Class of 2024," said Yvette Hunsicker, vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility and Inclusion & Diversity, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Honda is proud to partner with the CWSA in honouring the achievements of inspiring student-athletes who are changing the landscape of collegiate women's athletics."

This year saw a tie in voting for the Top Three finalists from the CWSA Class of 2024, resulting in four honourees. Alongside Clark were Madisen Skinner from Texas, Haleigh Bryant from LSU, and Nijaree Canady from Stanford. Nearly 1,000 NCAA member schools participated in voting to select these top athletes.

The Collegiate Women Sports Awards Board of Directors chose Clark as the Honda Cup winner. Previous recipients include notable athletes like Katie Ledecky, Breanna Stewart, Missy Franklin, Maya Moore, Candace Parker, Misty May, Mia Hamm, and Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

Clark has made history as the most prolific scorer in NCAA history. She surpassed Pete Maravich to become the all-time leading scorer in both men's and women's basketball during her 130th collegiate game. Currently playing for Indiana Fever after being the top pick in the WNBA draft, she has earned numerous Player of the Year honours.

Among her accolades are twice winning both the Wade Trophy and Naismith Award. She is also a three-time Big Ten Player of the Year and holds several NCAA records including most points in a single season. Clark is unique for leading her conference in scoring and assists for four consecutive seasons.

Academic Excellence and Community Service

Off the court, Clark excels academically as well. She is a two-time First Team Academic All-American and was named CSC Academic All-American of the Year in 2023. Her commitment extends beyond sports to community service and leadership.

"In our 48-year history, only a handful of athletes have won the Honda Cup twice," said Chris Voelz, Executive Director of CWSA. "Just as she achieved numerous historical firsts in her senior year, Caitlin Clark makes history with us as the fourth two-time Cup winner and only the second to win it back-to-back."
