BYD's Global Premiere: All-new Double Deck Bus With Blade Battery Chassis, Customized For UK Market
London, United Kingdom - BYD, a leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEV) and power batteries, has unveiled its latest innovation, the all-new electric double-decker bus, the BYD BD11. The launch event took place at the London Bus Museum, a venue known for housing the first electric bus with a BYD K9E chassis dedicated to London's public transport network.
The introduction of the BYD BD11 marks a significant development for BYD in the UK public transportation sector. Specifically designed for London, this model will commence operations later this year, with plans for a provincial model to follow soon after. The BYD BD11 features BYD's renowned Blade Battery, which offers exceptional range, performance, and fast charging capabilities with a battery capacity of up to 532kWh.

The Blade Battery supports dual-gun charging and pantograph fast charging up to 500kW, allowing the BYD BD11 to be recharged from 0 to 100 per cent in just two hours. Introduced in 2020, this battery aims to provide the safest option in the market while redefining safety standards for the entire industry. It is integrated into the chassis to save weight, increase driving range, and enhance stability and manoeuvrability.
Additionally, the BYD BD11 is equipped with an integrated thermal management system to optimise energy utilisation. Prioritising driver and passenger comfort and safety, it features active suspension control and a comprehensive suite of enhanced safety features, including the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
BYD is unique among NEV producers as it has developed its own powertrain systems, power batteries, automotive semiconductors, motors, and motor controller systems. Over 1,800 BYD eBuses are currently operating on UK roads, with a total operating mileage exceeding 80 million miles. This is equivalent to a reduction of 137 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Last year, BYD introduced new eBus innovations for the European market with the launch of the B12 model. The company continues to develop advanced technologies for public transport networks globally. Frank Thorpe, Managing Director of BYD UK Commercial Vehicles, commented on the company's commitment to technological innovation and eco-conscious public transportation.
"The BYD BD11 will play a pivotal role in contributing to the reduction of air pollution in London and support the UK's wider carbon neutrality goals," said Thorpe. "We are proud to launch our own all-new electric double-decker bus with highly innovative technology for safe and reliable electric mobility."
BYD aims to provide operators with modern eco-friendly eBus options that meet their specifications. This initiative will offer more people the choice to use clean, non-polluting bus services in the future.
