BYD India Set To Unveil New Atto 3 Variant With Enhanced Affordability
BYD India has teased a new product launch on July through its social media channels. Sources indicate that the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer plans to introduce a new entry-level variant the Atto 3 e-SUV, featuring a smaller battery pack.
The current Atto3 model boasts an ARAI-certified range of 521km with its 60.48kWh battery. The upcoming variant will have a smaller 50kWh battery, which is expected to offer a slightly reduced range compared to the existing model.
New Variant Specifications
The new Atto 3 variant aims to be more competitively priced, targeting the higher-end models of the MG ZS EV. The MG ZS EV, priced between Rs 18.98 lakh and Rs 25.20 lakh, features a 50.3kWh battery with a range of 461km. In contrast, BYD currently sells the Atto 3 at Rs 33.99 lakh, but the new variant is anticipated to be priced around Rs 26 lakh-28 lakh.
To achieve this competitive pricing, BYD might remove some features from the new variant. However, it remains unclear which specific features will be omitted. The Atto 3's front-mounted electric motor generates 204hp and 310Nm torque; it is yet to be confirmed if these specifications will remain unchanged in the new variant or if they will be slightly detuned.
Market Competition
The introduction of this entry-level Atto 3 variant will position BYD against not only the MG ZS EV but also upcoming electric SUVs like the Tata Harrier EV, Mahindra XUV.e8, Hyundai Creta EV, and Maruti eVX.
Currently, there are no direct rivals for the Atto 3 in India with its existing specifications and price point. The addition of this new variant could significantly alter the competitive landscape for electric SUVs in India. (All prices mentioned are ex-showroom India).
