BYD Launches ETH8 Electric Truck In Europe, Advancing Zero-Emission Goals
BYD, a global leader in new energy vehicles and power batteries, showcased its cutting-edge electric truck technology at IAA 2024. The company introduced the pure-electric ETH8 eTruck to Europe, offering a zero-emission solution for various transportation needs. The 19-tonne ETH8 combines advanced technology with versatility, making it ideal for logistics and sanitation operations.
The ETH8's design is tailored for the European market by Wolfgang Egger, BYD's Design Director. It features BYD’s iconic X front face and a dynamic waistline. The truck's aesthetic appeal is enhanced by Angel Eyes low-energy headlights, providing excellent visibility. Inside, the spacious cabin offers a plush driver cockpit with ergonomic design for comfort and convenience.
Standard equipment on the ETH8 includes a tachometer, multi-function steering wheel, an 8-inch info screen, and a large 10.1-inch hover LCD touchpad screen. Electrohydraulic power steering and an economy power driving mode option are also included to enhance the driving experience.
BYD has developed its own powertrain systems, power batteries, automotive semiconductors, motors, and motor controller systems. The ETH8 benefits from this deeply integrated eTruck platform. A key feature is the innovative 5-in-1 controller that optimises performance and efficiency while simplifying maintenance.
The e-Axle combines the axle with a two-speed gearbox and battery to increase energy efficiency by over 90%. Regenerative braking further enhances efficiency. The Iron-Phosphate battery used in the ETH8 offers higher safety and stability compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries and is environmentally friendly as it is cobalt-free.
Versatile Chassis for Multiple Applications
The BYD ETH8's multipurpose chassis makes it suitable for various operations such as city distribution and sanitation. It offers excellent handling and manoeuvrability for pure-electric driving experiences while maintaining quiet operation. Two wheelbase options cater to specific operational needs.
The four-speed gearbox is designed specifically for electric trucks, providing optimal performance with moderate power consumption. This ensures efficient operation across different applications.
Range and Charging Capabilities
The ETH8 boasts a large battery capacity that allows it to be charged from 20% to 100% within two hours. It offers a range of up to 250 km on a full charge. Various charging solutions are available to maximise convenience for users.
