BYD has introduced the eMax 7 electric MPV to the Indian market, signalling a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the e6. Launched as a facelift of the e6 under a new moniker, the eMax 7 boasts an array of enhancements, including updated aesthetics, advanced safety technology, and superior performance capabilities.

Exterior Design

Visually, the eMax 7 has undergone a thorough redesign, featuring slimmer headlamps, sportier bumpers, and new alloy wheels. The previous blue BYD emblem has been replaced with a newer logo, and the front grille has also been updated. The vehicle showcases larger, more modern-looking wraparound tail lamps connected by a bar, moving away from the dual-tone treatment seen on the e6's bumpers and sides.

Performance

The eMax 7 introduces upgraded powertrain options that eclipse those of the e6, providing users with improved performance. Equipped with a front-mounted electric motor, the vehicle is available in two variants: Premium, boasting 161hp, and Superior, with an impressive 201hp. Both variants maintain a peak torque of 310Nm, a significant increase from the e6's 95hp and 180Nm torque.

Inside, the eMax 7 transitions from the e6's all-black theme to a more sophisticated black-and-brown dual-tone scheme. The vehicle embraces technology with a newly designed steering wheel and a larger 12.8-inch touchscreen, replacing the 10.1-inch unit found in the e6. Additions such as a revamped centre console, a new drive selector, and various configurations for seating layouts signify the model's innovative approach.

In terms of equipment, the eMax 7 is a significant upgrade from its predecessor. It introduces a fixed panoramic glass roof, wireless chargers, smartphone connectivity, Level 2 ADAS technology, powered and ventilated front seats, frameless front wipers, and a 360-degree camera, offering a more luxurious and safer driving experience.

Unlike the e6's standard two-row, 5-seat setup, the eMax 7 offers a choice between a 6-seat arrangement with captain seats in the middle row or a 7-seat configuration. Despite these changes, the vehicle maintains the same 580-litre boot space, thanks to its flat-fold third row of seats.

In terms of pricing, the eMax 7 starts at Rs 26.9 lakh, extending up to Rs 29.9 lakh, which represents an exceptional value considering the myriad of updates and improvements over the e6, which was priced at Rs 29.15 lakh for a single variant.
