Brits Reveal Their Ideal Celebrity Companions For Holiday Road Trips
New research has revealed the celebrities with whom the British public would most like to share a UK holiday journey. Jeremy Clarkson, known for his love of cars, is the top choice to get behind the wheel. TV and sports stars, along with a particular royal, also feature among the favourites.
The study, conducted by Kwik Fit, also asked people who they would prefer as fellow passengers to ensure an enjoyable trip. Comedian Peter Kay, star of 'Car Share', topped the list. He was followed by Stephen Fry and Bob Mortimer, both loved for their storytelling abilities.

Men and women agreed on their favourite driver but differed in their top five choices. Both genders chose Jeremy Clarkson as their number one driver. Men preferred David Beckham and Lewis Hamilton, while women opted for Daniel Craig and Princess Anne.
The top five drivers chosen by all adults were: Jeremy Clarkson, David Beckham, Lewis Hamilton, Rowan Atkinson, and Princess Anne. For men, Rowan Atkinson and James May made the list. Women included Daniel Craig and Princess Anne in their top five.
When it came to choosing passengers for a fun journey, Peter Kay was again the top choice for both men and women. Men favoured storytellers like Stephen Fry and comedians such as Bob Mortimer and Frank Skinner. Their list also included Emma Watson.
Women leaned towards musical companions with Adele, Ed Sheeran, and Stacey Solomon joining Peter Kay and Stephen Fry in their top five choices. This preference highlights a desire for music during travel.
The overall favourite holiday companions were: Peter Kay, Stephen Fry, Bob Mortimer, Adele, Ed Sheeran. Men’s preferences included Frank Skinner and Emma Watson while women chose Stacey Solomon and Ed Sheeran.
Regional Preferences
There were notable regional differences in celebrity choices. Scots preferred actor Jason Statham as their holiday driver due to his action film roles involving driving. In Eastern England and Northern Ireland, Ed Sheeran was more popular than Peter Kay as a passenger.
In London, Adele topped the list of preferred passengers despite Peter Kay's popularity elsewhere. This reflects local pride in the singer who has strong ties to the city.
Kwik Fit's Insights
Roger Griggs from Kwik Fit commented on the findings: "It’s been fun to see who the nation would choose as their driver and fellow passengers to ensure happy journeys this summer holiday." He noted that while imagining celebrities driving might be nice, ensuring passenger happiness is ultimately up to us.
Griggs emphasised the importance of pre-travel car checks to avoid breakdowns that could ruin a holiday journey. He advised drivers to make sure they have audiobooks and music ready for their trips.
