Bridgestone Winter Driving School Launches New Era With Toyota Gazoo Racing Performance Vehicles
The Bridgestone Winter Driving School, operating since 1983, is the longest-running winter driver education program globally. In 2025, the school will introduce a fleet of Toyota Gazoo Racing vehicles for its performance classes. This includes the turbocharged GR Supra, the boxer engine GR86, and the all-wheel-drive GR Corolla. These cars will be used in one- or two-day driving experiences on snow and ice tracks in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
The collaboration between Toyota and the school started in 2001. However, 2024 is notable as it marks the first year with a fleet exclusively dedicated to performance classes. Akio Toyoda, former President and Chairman of Toyota, initiated this shift with his vision of "no more boring cars." From 2019 to 2022, Toyota introduced the GR performance vehicles, each tested by Toyoda himself to ensure they met high standards.
The new "Fastest Ride on Ice featuring TOYOTA GAZOO Racing" enhances the school's established class format by adding excitement. The GR fleet includes both manual and automatic transmission options. This allows drivers of various skill levels to experience Toyota's latest sports cars on challenging icy surfaces.
In addition to performance classes, the school's daily safety programs continue using current-year models like all-wheel-drive Camrys and Highlanders. The school employs industry-leading coaching techniques both in-car and track-side. Nearly 100,000 drivers have gained confidence in low-traction conditions through these methods.
Located in Steamboat Springs, CO, Bridgestone Winter Driving School offers an essential experience for winter driving skills. Professional drivers teach students using simple terminology and hands-on practice. This approach helps anyone improve their driving abilities in challenging winter conditions.
Toyota has been a significant player in automotive innovation for over six decades. Known for creating vehicles like the Prius hybrid and Mirai fuel cell vehicle, Toyota focuses on building cars that suit people's lifestyles through its Toyota and Lexus brands.
Toyota's Commitment to Innovation
In North America alone, Toyota employs over 63,000 people and has assembled nearly 47 million vehicles at its manufacturing plants over 65 years. By 2025, a new plant in North Carolina will start producing automotive batteries for electrified vehicles.
Toyota operates more than 1,800 dealerships across North America. In 2023 alone, they sold over 2.6 million cars and trucks there. Notably, more than a quarter of these sales were electrified vehicles such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids.
The Bridgestone Winter Driving School continues to offer valuable learning experiences for drivers worldwide while embracing innovative partnerships like that with Toyota Gazoo Racing.
