BMW M Sports Trophy Recognises Top Private Teams And Drivers At Annual Awards Ceremony
The BMW M Sports Trophy celebrated its 62nd edition, honouring top private teams and drivers using BMW race cars globally. Turner Motorsport clinched the team title for the second year in a row, while Justin Rothberg emerged victorious in the driver's category. The event took place during the BMW M Night of Trophies, where key figures from BMW M Motorsport congratulated the winners.
Turner Motorsport's success was marked by their 557th race in a BMW car, more than any other customer team. They excelled with the BMW M4 GT3 in various championships, including the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Fanatec GT World Challenge America. Their performance earned them 1,531 points, securing first place ahead of FK Performance Motorsport and Schubert Motorsport.
The new BMW M Racing Academy aims to nurture talent within motorsport. Four racers from the GT4 category will be supported as part of the "Class of 2025." These include Nerea Martí from Spain, Berkay Besler from Turkey, Matthew Million from the USA, and Niels Tröger from Germany. They received their official team clothing at the event.
Justin Rothberg topped the driver's ranking with 914 points. His achievements included being crowned Pro-Am Champion in the Fanatec GT World Challenge America and securing victories with the BMW M4 GT3 in GT America. Maxime Oosten and Darren Leung followed him in second and third places, respectively.
The event also highlighted upcoming customer racing developments such as new models like the BMW M4 GT3 EVO and BMW M2 Racing cars. Sylvia Neubauer emphasised that private teams are crucial customers for BMW M, providing valuable feedback and showcasing car performance on tracks worldwide.
Björn Lellmann expressed pride in offering an exclusive talent promotion programme through the academy. He noted that this initiative enhances their commitment to customer racing and is a key element for a successful 2025 season.
Celebrating Global Successes
Franciscus van Meel highlighted that honouring successful teams is a special annual event for BMW M Motorsport. He stated: "The fact that the BMW M Sports Trophy was held for the 62nd time this year shows how important this tradition is to us." He thanked all teams and drivers for representing BMW globally.
Sylvia Neubauer added that affordability is a focus for developing new models like the BMW M2 Racing debuting in 2026. She stressed making motorsport accessible while ensuring high technological standards and reliability at BMW M Motorsport.
Björn Lellmann reflected on a fantastic racing season, congratulating all successful participants. He acknowledged titles won across various championships such as DTM, IMSA series, GT World Challenges Europe and America, Italian GT Championship, TC America, ESET Cup Series, and NLS.
The event concluded with Dirk Adorf presenting official team clothing to future talents at the academy. This gesture symbolised support for nurturing upcoming racers who will carry forward BMW's legacy in motorsport.
