BMW M Motorsport Reflects On A Successful 2024 Season With 215 Wins And Major Achievements
BMW M Motorsport reflects on a remarkable 2024 season filled with victories, titles, and podium finishes. The BMW M Hybrid V8, BMW M4 GT3, and BMW M4 GT4 collectively achieved 215 wins, participated in over 1,000 races, and covered more than one million kilometres. These achievements highlight the brand's dedication to excellence in motorsport.
The BMW M Hybrid V8 faced fierce competition in its debut year at the FIA World Endurance Championship and its second year in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Despite early setbacks, the team showed significant improvement. This culminated in a first-ever 1-2 finish for BMW M Team RLL in the IMSA series and a podium finish for BMW M Team WRT in the FIA WEC.
In its third season, the BMW M4 GT3 secured 50 wins and ten global titles. Notable achievements include team titles for Schubert Motorsport in DTM and Team WRT in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS. Charles Weerts claimed the driver's title in the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
The BMW M4 GT3 also earned podiums at major 24-hour races like Daytona, Nürburgring, Le Mans, and Spa-Francorchamps. Although it didn't secure a major win this time, it achieved a 1-2 finish in Macau's qualification race and second and third places in the main race. Throughout the season, it covered over 380,000 racing kilometres.
The BMW M4 GT4 celebrated its second season by winning the first-ever SRO global GT4 Manufacturer's title. This was determined over 50 events with 95 races across Europe, Asia, Australia, and America. In 2024 alone, customer teams raced this model in 770 races, securing victory in 164 of them.
Success Beyond Traditional Racing
Beyond traditional racing success with current models like the BMW M Hybrid V8 and others, private teams also triumphed with models such as the BMW M2 CS Racing and BMW M240i Racing. Additionally, automotive gaming was a success story for BMW M Motorsport this year.
BMW M Team Redline emerged victorious at the prestigious Esports World Cup during ESL R1 racing series' grand finale. They won both team standings while Kevin Siggy topped driver standings. Sebastian Job was honoured as "Sim Racer of the Year" at Esports Awards.
Commitment to Customer Racing
Björn Lellmann expressed gratitude towards all customer teams contributing to impressive results within their GT sector program: "Customer racing has been central to our programme for decades." He confirmed plans for further development with new models like an entry-level BMW M2 Racing set for debut season testing ahead of January endurance highlights.
Andreas Roos praised efforts across various motorsport areas: "The figures for this season underline our strong commitment." He congratulated teams/drivers celebrating successes using their cars throughout this year while expressing determination towards achieving top podium positions next season through further developed EVO models alongside continued use of existing ones like Hybrid V8s.
