BMW Concept F 450 GS: Innovative Off-Road Motorcycle Designed For A2 License Class
BMW Motorrad has unveiled the BMW Concept F 450 GS, a near-production-ready motorcycle aimed at the A2 license class. This new model is designed to fit between the BMW G 310 and F 800/900 series. Sepp Mächler, Product Manager, emphasised the focus on achieving excellent handling and performance for both on-road and off-road riding.
The BMW Concept F 450 GS embodies the distinctive design of the GS family. Alexander Buckan, Head of BMW Motorrad Design, stated that the concept retains the sporty appeal of larger models in a compact form. The colour scheme of blue, white, and red highlights its dynamic character.
The motorcycle features a newly developed twin-cylinder engine. This engine is tailored for the A2 class, delivering 48 hp with strong torque even at low revs. Innovative materials like magnesium contribute to its lightweight design, ensuring an excellent power-to-weight ratio.
The chassis of the BMW Concept F 450 GS incorporates premium technology for superior performance. Marc Weber, lead engineer, explained that they started development from scratch to ensure exceptional off-road capability and precise road handling. The bike includes an adjustable upside-down fork and a shock absorber with load-dependent damping.
Safety and comfort are also prioritised in this model. Inspired by the BMW R 1300 GS, it includes features like BMW Motorrad ABS Pro and configurable riding modes. Connectivity is enhanced with a 6.5-inch TFT display for smartphone integration.
Future Prospects
Johann Simon, vehicle project manager, hinted at what to expect in a production version of the Concept F 450 GS. He assured that they aim to stay true to the sporty off-road focus while making minor adjustments like seat height for better accessibility.
The production version is expected to be presented in 2025, maintaining the style of the Concept F 450 GS. Alternatives such as high-strength cast aluminium wheels are also being considered alongside cross-spoke wheels.
The BMW Group continues its legacy as a leading manufacturer of premium vehicles worldwide. In 2023 alone, they sold over 2.55 million passenger vehicles and more than 209,000 motorcycles globally. Their strategic focus remains on sustainability and efficient resource management throughout their operations.
