2024 BMW 4 Series Facelift Arrives With New Looks And More Powerful M4
BMW has unveiled the facelifted 4 Series Coupe and Convertible models which are set to hit the roads in the spring. The facelifted 2024 BMW 4 Series brings a host of improvements, including enhanced styling, updated technology, and a reduced, yet more efficient, powertrain range.
The exterior changes include new LED headlights, a revised front bumper, and matte chrome surrounding the grilles. M Sport models feature black inner sections in their headlights. The rear bumper now features a black lower section, larger exhaust finishers, and optional laser taillights first seen on the ultra-rare M4 CSL.

Inside the cabin, the dashboard has been subtly reshaped, with redesigned air vents and trim elements available in aluminium, wood or optional carbon fibre. A new flat-bottomed steering wheel is standard and features shift paddles for the automatic gearbox.
Tech-wise, BMW's latest OS 8.5 system integrates into the dual-screen display, offering more customisation options. The air conditioning controls are found in a static dock at the base of the infotainment screen which also houses among other options.

Under the bonnet, the 4 Series offers two mild-hybrid petrol engine options connected to an eight-speed automatic. The base 420i delivers 182bhp and 300Nm of torque from its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, powering the rear wheels only. The 420i coupe has a 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.5 seconds (8.2 seconds for the Convertible) and a top speed of 240km/h (the drop-top has a 235km/h top speed).
The 430i ups the power and torque numbers from the 2.0-litre turbo engine to 241bhp and 400Nm and adds all-wheel drive to the setup. The BMW 430i xDrive sprints from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds (6.3 seconds for the convertible) and has a top speed of 250km/h.

The M440i features a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine, delivering 368bhp and 500Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The M440i sprints from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds (4.9 for the Convertible) and has a top speed of 250km/h.
There are also two diesel options - 420d and 430d. The former uses a 2.0-litre diesel producing 188bhp and 400Nm. The 420d sprints from 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds and has a top speed of 240km/h (7.6 seconds and 236km/h for the convertible).

The 430d uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that pushes out 282bhp and 650Nm of peak torque to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The BMW 430d coupe sprints from 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds and has a top speed of 250km/h; the convertible is 0.7 seconds slower to 100km/h and has the same top speed.
BMW has also updated the M4 Coupe and Convertible. The M4's 3.0-litre straight-six engine delivers a 473bhp and 550Nm of torque which is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. 0-100km takes 4.2 seconds while the top speed is 290km/h (with the M Driver's package).

The M4 Competition is offered in both coupe and convertible guises and is only offered with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. The turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six engine pushes out 523bhp and 650Nm. This allows for a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds (3.7s for the cabrio) and an unrestricted top speed of 290km/h (with the M Driver's package).
Both the 4 Series and M4 models utilise a 48V electrical system and compact battery to power a small electric motor, acting as the car's starter motor and generator. This can generate an additional 11bhp and provide a temporary 'Boost' mode under hard acceleration.

Thoughts About The BMW 4 Series & M4 Facelifts
The new BMW 4 Series and M4 bring upgrades in terms of design and tech and are expected to arrive at dealerships for delivery in Europe by Spring 2024. The four-door Gran Coupe variant is also expected to receive similar updates quite soon.
