Bentley Unveils Specially-Wrapped Convertible In Support Of LGBTQ+ At Manchester Pride
Bentley Motors showcased its unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community with a specially designed convertible at the Manchester Pride Parade. The vibrant Continental GTC, designed by Rich Morris, was accompanied by 75 Bentley colleagues, family, and friends during the event.
This marks Bentley’s third consecutive year participating in the Manchester parade. The brand has also been involved in Crewe Pride and Nantwich Pride events near its headquarters in North West England. Employees at the Pyms Lane factory actively engage in various community outreach projects, reinforcing Bentley's culture of inclusivity and authenticity.
For BeProud, Bentley’s colleague-led network, participating in Pride transcends mere celebration. It represents a powerful statement of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community globally. Pride began as a protest and remains a beacon of hope and progress for many facing discrimination. Participants have described their experiences as ‘incomparable’ and ‘empowering’, fostering a strong sense of belonging.
The Continental GTC featured a bold design incorporating the colours of the Progress flag, symbolising diversity and inclusion within the LGBTQ+ community. The car's theme, ‘finding your community’, resonates deeply with those who have felt different or faced prejudice.
A standout feature of this bespoke Bentley is its specially curated headrests. Designed and manufactured by Bentley’s in-house teams, they reflect pride in craftsmanship while embodying the Manchester Pride theme ‘Buzzin’ to be Queer – A Hive of Progress’. Each headrest showcases intricate embroidery with 6,184 stitches per pattern, totalling 24,736 stitches across all headrests.
Detailed Craftsmanship Showcases Support
The embroidery process for each headrest takes 15 minutes and features nine unique Bentley coloured threads: Vivid Magenta, Azure Purple, Key Lime Green, Beluga, Reflex Blue, Cyber Yellow, White, Mandarin, and Kingfisher Blue. This meticulous work allowed Bentley colleagues to express their support for the BeProud network proudly.
Karen Lange, Member of the Board for Human Resources at Bentley Motors, emphasised their ongoing commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community beyond just Pride Month. She stated: "Our backing of the LGBTQ+ community is an ongoing, year-round commitment – not just during Pride Month. Rich Morris’ design featured on Bentley’s fourth dedicated Pride Car represents love, new life and acceptance."
Celebrating Progress and Inspiring Change
Wayne Bruce, Chief Communications and DEI Officer at Bentley Motors, highlighted the significance of Manchester Pride in celebrating BeProud's achievements at Bentley. He noted: "Manchester Pride allowed us to celebrate the years of progress made by BeProud at Bentley. The group focusses on LGBTQ+ topics and... it came at a timely moment for the 600 colleagues involved across the wider Bentley networks."
The bee symbol used during this year's parade symbolises hard work and ongoing commitment to progress and DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) that Bentley champions.
Bentley Motors' participation in these events underscores its dedication to fostering an inclusive environment where all employees can bring their authentic selves to work. This commitment extends beyond parades into everyday workplace culture.
