Automobili Lamborghini And Italian State Police Celebrate Two Decades Of Life-Saving Collaboration

Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian State Police have marked two decades of collaboration, which began in 2004 with the delivery of a Lamborghini Gallardo. This partnership has provided high-performance vehicles for patrolling and emergency medical services. These cars have completed over 200 organ transport missions across Italy, playing a crucial role in saving lives and participating in more than 1,500 road safety education events.

The partnership's significance is highlighted by Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, who stated, "We are extremely proud to celebrate 20 years of collaboration with the Italian State Police, an institution we deeply respect for its daily work protecting the safety of Italian citizens." He added that knowing their vehicles have aided police operations and saved lives is immensely gratifying.

The collaboration began with the delivery of the first Gallardo 510-4 to the Italian State Police in 2004. This vehicle was equipped with a V10 engine and advanced features like a dry-sump lubrication system and variable valve timing. It served in Rome for four years, covering around 140,000 kilometres in patrols and urgent medical interventions.

In 2005, another Gallardo was delivered for use in Bologna. It had similar equipment for road safety monitoring and included a refrigerated compartment for urgent organ transport. These vehicles were instrumental in enhancing road safety and supporting emergency medical operations.

The Gallardo LP 560-4 replaced earlier models in 2008. With a 5.2-litre V10 engine producing 560 CV, it offered superior performance. The vehicle was used primarily along the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway. It featured a refrigerated compartment for organ transport and a defibrillator to support emergency medical operations.

This model also participated in various representational events like the Police Day parade in Rome and vintage car competitions such as Targa Florio and Milano–San Remo rally. One model even showcased Italian State Police colours during Columbus Day celebrations in New York.

Huracán Models Continue Legacy

In 2014, Automobili Lamborghini introduced the Huracán LP 610-4 to the police fleet, followed by another model in 2017. This vehicle features a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine capable of reaching speeds up to 325 km/h. Designed specifically for this collaboration, it includes all-wheel drive and an aluminium-carbon fibre chassis for stability at high speeds.

The Huracán played a crucial role in February 2023 during an organ transport mission under the national Cross-Over programme. A kidney was transported from San Salvatore Hospital to Le Molinette Hospital, saving a woman's life.

Urus Performante Joins Fleet

The latest addition to the fleet is the Urus Performante, delivered last December at Rome’s Piazza del Viminale. Equipped with a twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 666 CV, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. The vehicle features essential public safety equipment like a secure weapon drawer and collapsible message panel.

This model also includes a refrigerated compartment for organ transport with constant temperature monitoring capabilities. The Urus Performante highlights innovation while supporting critical police missions through its exceptional performance capabilities.

Chief of Police Vittorio Pisani remarked on this enduring partnership: "The Lamborghinis allow us to rely on cutting-edge equipment and technology." He emphasised that these vehicles ensure specially trained drivers can perform vital services swiftly and safely.

This ongoing collaboration between Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian State Police underscores their shared commitment to public service through advanced technology and innovative solutions.
