In a delightful showcase of automotive restoration, the Austin J40 pedal car, meticulously rejuvenated by the experts at Austin Pedal Cars, made its grand debut at the Bicester Heritage April Scramble. This event marked the culmination of a three-month intensive restoration project, filmed for the upcoming series of "Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics." The restored vehicle is set to be auctioned by Mathewsons Auctions, with the entire process documented for the television series slated to air on the Yesterday channel and UKTV Play later this year.
The journey of this classic pedal car began in January 2024 when it was acquired from Mathewsons Auctions by the "Bangers and Cash: Restoring Classics" team. Previously part of a fairground ride, the car showed signs of extensive use and wear. However, its solid structure and historical value made it a prime candidate for restoration. The team at Austin Pedal Cars embarked on a mission to bring this classic back to its former glory, focusing on reversing modifications and restoring its original Ash Green colour.
The extensive restoration involved not only reviving the car's bodywork but also replacing worn parts with in-house manufactured components designed to original specifications. The result is a beautifully restored Austin J40 pedal car that stands as a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication of the Austin Pedal Cars team. The reveal event attracted attention from both the Scramble crowd and potential buyers, setting the stage for its upcoming auction on Thursday 2nd May.
Mark Burnett, Managing Director of Austin Pedal Cars, expressed pride in their work, stating, "Bangers & Cash are famous for bringing great classic vehicles back to life. Over three months, the team has carefully restored every element of this classic pedal car." He also highlighted that the auction package would include additional extras such as a tailored car cover, scale model recreation, and a copy of their new J40 history book to entice bidders.
