Audi Q8 e-tron Edition Dakar Unveiled - A Tribute To The World's Toughest Rally
German luxury car manufacturer Audi has revealed the Q8 e-tron Edition Dakar SUV ahead of the 2024 Dakar Rally that kicks off tomorrow in Saudi Arabia.
So what has Audi done to make the Audi Q8 e-tron Edition Dakar different from the regular version of the electric SUV? Well, there are a few mechanical changes as well as a few styling changes and special decals for just 99 of the units.
Let's get to the mechanical bits and bobs first. The Audi Q8 e-tron Edition Dakar rides on General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres as standard, though Audi will ship the electric SUV with regular summer tyres too.
These all-terrain tyres fitted to the Edition Dakar mean that this special version of the SUV sits 31mm taller than the regular Q8 e-tron electric SUV at 206mm. At higher speeds, the ride height lowers - by 15 millimetres at 85km/h, 17 millimetres at 100km/h, and 13 millimetres at 120 km/h to help optimize the drive for improved range.
Speaking of range, the 106kWh battery pack of the Audi Q8 e-tron Edition Dakar returns a range of 487 kilometres as per the WLTP testing cycle. The Edition Dakar fitted with the all-terrain tyres sprints from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds and tops out at 200km/h.
The Q8 Edition Dakar features a front angle of approach of 20 degrees and a rear angle of approach of 26 degrees while the ramp angle is 19 degrees. The air suspension system of the SUV has been revised as well and the Edition Dakar can wade through water as deep as 300mm.
The Edition Dakar is offered in 3 colour options - Siam Beige metallic, Mythos Black metallic, and Magnetic Gray. 99 versions of the Edition Dakar will sport a unique decal package inspired by the RS Q e-tron that races at the Dakar Rally. This special edition also features serial numbers on the D-pillar in frosted lettering.
The Audi Q8 e-tron Edition Dakar also features a host of standard features. Matrix LED headlights and taillights are standard as are the S-line interior package and sun visors for the tailgate, rear door, and side windows. The Audi Sport stitching package in red is available as an option.
Other features include a heads-up display, three scenes for the infotainment display and special optional features like ambient and contour lighting, four-zone automatic air conditioning Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System that drives 16 speakers with 705 watts of power.
