2025 Audi Q5 Vs New BMW X3: Battle Of The "Middle-Weight" Premium SUVs
Audi has introduced the latest generation of its Q5 SUV, showcasing a revamped exterior and more efficient engines. Priced from €52,300 (around ₹48.54 lakh), the 2025 Audi Q5 offers three engine choices and various tech and convenience features. Despite a global shift towards electric vehicles, Audi believes there remains a market for SUVs with combustion engines.
Exterior
The new Audi Q5 boasts a bolder front-end design with a smaller upper singleframe grille, an enlarged lower grille, and matrix LED headlights. At the rear, it features second-generation OLED tail lights. In contrast, the BMW X3 presents a subtler design with a compact kidney grille and new adaptive LED headlights, complemented by T-shaped tail lamps at the back.

Interior
Inside both vehicles, curved panoramic displays integrate the infotainment system and driver’s instrument cluster. The Audi Q5 includes an 11.9-inch driver's instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch MMI infotainment display powered by Android Automotive OS. It also offers a Bang & Olufsen sound system and an optional heads-up display. Meanwhile, the BMW X3 features a curved panoramic display running on BMW Operating System 9 with ambient interior lighting.
The Audi Q5 prioritises comfort with diamond-quilted seats, soft wrap elements, fabric panels, fully-adjustable rear seats, and a panoramic sliding sunroof. On the other hand, the BMW X3 provides electronically adjustable heated and ventilated sport seats, various upholstery options, and light strips forming U-shaped designs around the cabin.

Powertrains
Both models are equipped with mild-hybrid powertrains. The Audi Q5 offers three engine variants: an entry-level 2.0-litre engine, a diesel option, and the high-performance SQ5 model. All engines are paired with a 48V hybrid system and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. ]
The BMW X3 comes with two engine options: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, both supported by a 48V mild-hybrid system and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Safety Features
In terms of safety, the Audi Q5 is equipped with driver assistance features such as rear parking aid, lane driving aids, emergency braking, Evasion Assist, and Turn Assist through ADAS functions.
The BMW X3 includes a Driving Assistant Professional Package offering Lane Keeping Assistant and Active Blind Spot Detection. It also features Traffic Jam Assistant for handsfree driving along with standard Parking Assistant.

DriveSpark Thinks
Overall, both the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 deliver robust powertrains enhanced by mild-hybrid systems but differ in their exterior styling, interior amenities, and safety features.
