9-Year-Old Atiqa Mir Secures Podium Spots In Dubai Autodrome Championship

Atiqa Mir continued her fine run of performances in the Dubai Autodrome Championship, finishing third overall. Despite missing the fourth round due to clashes with races in Italy, she achieved this feat.

Atiqa topped the official practice on Saturday with the fastest lap of the weekend. On Sunday, she secured multiple podium finishes. In Round 5, held at the Dubai Kartdrome, she won Race 2 and finished third in both Race 1 and the final race.

Performance Highlights

During Race 1, Atiqa started in 10th position as DAMC followed a random grid without a qualifying race. She passed seven cars to finish in 3rd place. In Race 2, starting in 1st position, she maintained pace and secured a win.

Going into the finals, a confident Atiqa had qualified 2nd and was in line for a win. However, she lost pace and finished 3rd after receiving a penalty for track limits.

Atiqa's Reflections

Atiqa remarked, "I was driving a Rotax after three months and had to adjust a lot. I set the pace in practice and felt confident about winning. After winning a heat and finishing 3rd in another, I started on the front row in the finals. The win was there for the taking, but I lost pace at a crucial time and had to settle for 3rd after the penalty."

She added, "This was the last race of the UAE season. Now, we are off to drive in India and Europe for the summer. I thank my supporters and my team for all their support."

Successful Season

This round concluded a successful 2023-24 season for the 9-year-old. Atiqa won numerous races, achieved pole positions, and set a record for the fastest lap. She finished as Vice Champion in the IAME National Championship and secured 2nd Runner Up in the DAMC Championship.
