Arjun Maini Makes History: India's First DTM Pole Position

Arjun Maini had a successful outing at the DTM Round 7 held at the Red Bull Ring. He achieved his first-ever DTM pole position during Qualifying 1, becoming the first Indian to do so in the series. This was followed by two consecutive podium finishes, securing third place in both races.

Maini's performance in Austria saw him secure a pair of P3 finishes. Qualifying 1 started wet, but as the track dried the lead changed hands multiple times before Maini clocked the fastest time of 1 minute and 30.128 seconds.

Two Podium Finishes For Maini

In Race 1, Maini started well, however by Lap 7, he dropped down to P3 once rain started falling. Due to that, Maini couldn't regain his lead and crossed the chequered flag third.

In Race 2, Maini again clinched the last spot on the podium after a brilliant race starting in 8th. The team's strategy also paid off helping Maini secure the spot despite his tyres not running at the ideal temperatures. He was one of the few racers opting for a late pit stop, which paid off as he rejoined in third place.

Maini's Standings and Reflections

On Race 1, Maini said, "I had a good start, but unfortunately not a good pace on the wet track."

Reflecting on his performance in Race 2, Maini stated, "It was an action-packed, hard-fought race." He expressed satisfaction with his ability to move up from eighth to third place and emphasised the importance of quickly warming up his tyres after the pit stop.

Maini is currently tied for eighth place overall in the DTM standings with Emil Grey Racing's Jack Aitken. The competition remains fierce, but Maini's recent successes indicate that he is well-equipped to face the challenges ahead.

The next and final round of the DTM series is set to take place from October 18-20 at the Hockenheim Ring, Germany. Last year, Maini got a DNF in Race 1 and finished 13th in Race 2, so hopefully the results take a turn for the better for our local driver.
