American Honda Celebrates Strong Sales Growth With An 11% Increase In 2024
American Honda has reported a significant increase in auto sales, with a total of 127,129 units sold in May 2024. This marks the company's second-best sales month of the year, driven by a balanced mix of cars and light trucks, as well as strong sales of electrified models.
For the first five months of 2024, Honda and Acura brands have exceeded their projected growth rate of 10%, achieving sales of 577,539 units. The Honda brand alone saw sales surpassing 114,000 units in May, reflecting a 14% year-over-year increase and marking the fourth consecutive month with sales above 100,000 units.
Honda's electrified vehicle sales reached 26,912 units in May, led by the CR-V hybrid, Accord hybrid, and Prologue. The Prologue model recorded 612 units sold as its initial rollout continues in targeted markets. The CR-V maintained its strong performance with over 30,000 units sold for the fourth straight month, with hybrid models making up more than half of these sales.
The HR-V also showed impressive growth with over 13,000 units sold, marking a more than 45% year-over-year increase. Additionally, Pilot sales exceeded 12,500 units, driven by high demand for the TrailSport model. Both the Passport and Odyssey models posted their best months of the year.
The Civic model continued its strong performance with over 20,000 units sold for the fourth consecutive month. Combined sales of the Accord and Civic surpassed 37,000 units in May. Notably, Accord hybrid sales accounted for 52% of the model's total sales.
Acura's Best Month of 2024
The Acura brand achieved its best month of the year with 12,741 units sold in May. The MDX and RDX models led this success with combined sales exceeding 9,500 units. The MDX recorded its best month of the year with over 6,300 units sold, while the RDX topped 3,200 units.
The Integra model also had a standout month with over 2,500 units sold, leading all premium gateway competitors with a segment share exceeding 40%. Additionally, all-electric ZDX A-Spec units began arriving at dealerships in May, with the Type S variant expected to be available in early June.
