American Honda Marks A Stellar 25% Increase In August Auto Sales
American Honda reported a significant increase in auto sales for August, totalling 139,950 units, marking a 25% rise compared to the previous year. This surge was driven by robust passenger car sales, record-breaking light truck sales for August, and an all-time high in electrified model sales.
Honda's brand maintained its strong sales momentum, achieving over 127,900 units sold in August. This marks the seventh consecutive month with sales exceeding 100,000 units. The brand's electrified vehicle sales hit an all-time high with 36,889 units sold. This includes hybrid-electric versions of the CR-V and Accord, as well as the newly launched Civic hybrid and Prologue EV.
The Prologue EV recorded its best sales since its launch with 5,401 units sold as its nationwide rollout continues. The CR-V also had its best sales month of the year in August with 38,527 units sold. Notably, hybrid versions accounted for 51% of CR-V's total sales.
Honda's light trucks achieved their best-ever August sales with 88,726 units sold. This surpasses the previous record of 86,020 units set in 2019. The HR-V reached an all-time monthly high with 15,711 units sold. Additionally, the Pilot saw its best sales since July 2021 with 14,093 units sold, and the Ridgeline had its best-ever August with 5,030 units sold.
The Acura brand experienced its second-best month of the year with strong sales of 11,997 units in August. The MDX and RDX models combined for a total of 8,454 units sold. The RDX posted its best month of the year with 4,422 units sold. Despite lean inventory, the new 2025 MDX accounted for most MDX sales at 4,032 units.
All-electric ZDX sales reached a monthly high of 1,003 units as the new electric SUV gained traction. The ZDX Type S represented nearly 20% of these sales in August. Integra also performed well with nearly 2,000 units sold, capturing over half of its class's market share.
Year-to-Date Sales Overview
Year-to-date (YTD) figures show American Honda's total sales at over 950,968 units—a rise of 11.2%. Car sales increased by 3%, reaching a total of 306,948 units. Truck sales saw a more substantial increase of 15.6%, totalling 644,020 units.
In contrast to these gains, Acura’s YTD figures showed a slight decline overall but an increase in truck sales by 16.3%. Total Acura car sales were down by nearly 37%, while truck sales rose to reach a total of over nine thousand units.
The Civic model continued to perform strongly with over twenty thousand units sold for the seventh consecutive month. The newly introduced Civic hybrid also made an impressive debut with initial full-month sales reaching over two thousand three hundred units.
This consistent performance highlights Honda’s ability to outpace industry growth and expand market share effectively through strategic product launches and sustained consumer demand for both traditional and electrified vehicles.
The data underscores American Honda's robust market presence and strategic focus on expanding their electrified vehicle lineup while maintaining strong performance across traditional models.
