All-New BMW M5: Top 5 Things To Know
The BMW M5, now in its seventh generation, has been introduced in India with a price tag of Rs 1.99 crore (ex-showroom). This new model is the most powerful version yet, featuring a plug-in hybrid V8 powertrain. That being said, here are the top 5 highlights of the new BMW M5.
Powertrain
The M5's powertrain combines a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine itself generates 585hp and 750Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds another 199hp and 280Nm. This results in a total system output of 727hp and 1000Nm of torque.

The car's battery pack has a capacity of 18.6kWh, allowing for an electric-only range of up to 69km according to the WLTP cycle. In this mode, it can reach speeds of up to 140kph and supports AC charging up to 7.4kW.
Performance
Despite its increased weight of around 2.5 tonnes due to the motor and battery, the M5 can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 3.5 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 250kph but can be extended to 305kph with the optional M Driver's Package.

Exterior Design Highlights
Compared to the standard 5-Series, the new BMW M5 boasts a more aggressive look with sculpted bumpers and flared wheel arches. The grille features a gloss black surround with an 'M5' logo at its centre, while larger air inlets are present on the sharply chiselled front bumper.
The rear design includes a spoiler and a two-section diffuser with quad exhausts finished in gloss black. Vertical reflectors on the rear bumper enhance its width appearance, while staggered wheels measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear complete its sporty stance.

Interior & Tech
Inside, not much has changed from the regular 5-Series except for some M-specific elements like a flat-bottomed steering wheel and ambient lighting. The interior also includes M-spec seats with illuminated logos and revised switchgear on the centre console.
The feature list is comprehensive, including a curved infotainment display screen with a 14.9-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster measuring 12.3 inches. Additional features include a 4-zone automatic climate control, a wireless charging tray, a head-up display, and Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System.

Other Features
The BMW M5 features adaptive suspension and rear-wheel steering as standard equipment. It also includes BMW's rear-biased xDrive all-wheel-drive system for optimal power distribution to all four wheels.
For those seeking more luxury options, customers can choose a panoramic sunroof instead of the standard carbon fibre roof; however, this adds an extra weight of about 50kg to the vehicle.
DriveSpark Thinks
In India, the new BMW M5 is priced just Rs 4 lakh higher than its competitor-the Mercedes-AMG C63-which uses a smaller engine and offers less power and electric range compared to BMW's offering.
