The Indian car market has experienced significant changes in vehicle safety standards in recent years. While some manufacturers have opposed the mandate for six airbags, others have focused on improving crash safety performance.
As of June 2024, only a few vehicles come with six standard airbags. This article lists all such vehicles priced under Rs 10 lakh (Ex-showroom).
Hyundai's dominance in affordable cars with six airbags
Hyundai leads the pack with its Grand i10 Nios, which is the most affordable car in India with six standard airbags, priced at Rs 5.92 lakh (Ex-showroom).The Grand i10 Nios also offers a range of features such as a touchscreen infotainment system, rear AC vents, and wireless charging, making it a competitive option in its segment.
With its stylish design, efficient engine options, and emphasis on safety, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios stands out as a popular choice for budget-conscious car buyers in India.
All Hyundai vehicles, starting from the i10, come with six airbags as standard fitment. The Hyundai Exter and Aura also feature six standard airbags and are priced at Rs 6.12 lakh and Rs 6.48 lakh (Ex-showroom), respectively.
Maruti Suzuki Swift comes in fourth place, with its newly launched fourth-generation model priced at Rs 6.48 lakh (Ex-showroom). Surprisingly, more premium vehicles in Maruti's lineup like Baleno, Fronx, and Brezza still come with only two standard airbags.
Other notable vehicles with six standard airbags
Hyundai continues to dominate the list with its i20 premium hatchback, which is priced at Rs 7.04 lakh (Ex-showroom) and comes with six standard airbags. Mahindra XUV3XO is India's cheapest sub-4m SUV with six airbags as standard and is priced at Rs 7.49 lakh (Ex-showroom).
Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet follow closely behind, priced at Rs 7.94 lakh and Rs 7.99 lakh (Ex-showroom), respectively.
Tata Nexon, the first-ever Indian vehicle to receive a five-star crash rating, now offers six standard airbags in its latest facelifted version, priced at Rs 7.99 lakh (Ex-showroom).
The Tata Altroz Racer and Hyundai i20 N Line both come equipped with six standard airbags and are priced at Rs 9.49 lakh and Rs 9.99 lakh (Ex-showroom) each.
In conclusion, Hyundai stands out among other manufacturers by offering many affordable cars equipped with six airbags as standard across their variant lineup.
