Acura Issues Recall For 2024 ZDX Models To Fix Braking Software

Acura is recalling around 5,000 ZDX all-wheel-drive (AWD) vehicles in the U.S. to update the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) software. This recall affects the 2024 ZDX A-Spec AWD and 2024 ZDX Type S models. The software update aims to fix a braking issue that can occur at speeds below 25 mph.

The over-the-air update will be available starting today, August 16, and can be installed without visiting a dealer. Owners will receive a notification on their vehicle's center touchscreen after driving and shifting to Park. They can also navigate to Settings, then Updates & History, to install it later.

The issue arises when the anti-lock braking system (ABS) falsely activates under specific conditions, such as on flat, smooth, dry surfaces. If this happens and a particular sequence of wheel movements occurs, the ABS may continue to release braking pressure. This could reduce stopping performance or make the brakes inoperable, increasing the risk of a crash.

To receive the over-the-air update, vehicles must be enrolled in OnStar with all terms and conditions accepted. The update process may take up to five minutes during which the vehicle will not be operable. Features like door locks, windows, and warning chimes may not function; locked doors might not unlock using the power switch or remote fob.

If owners need help with the update process, they can visit an Acura dealer for assistance. Acura encourages owners of affected vehicles to install the update as soon as prompted by their vehicle.

Additional Information

No crashes or injuries related to this issue have been reported in Acura vehicles so far. The recall applies only to AWD models. Owners of 2024 ZDX vehicles can check if their vehicle requires repair by visiting http://www.recalls.acura.com or calling (888) 234-2138.

Mailed notifications will be sent in September to owners whose vehicles have not yet been updated. This proactive measure aims to ensure all affected vehicles receive the necessary software update promptly.

This recall highlights Acura's commitment to safety by addressing potential issues before any incidents occur. By offering free over-the-air updates, Acura makes it convenient for owners to keep their vehicles safe and functional.
