Acura's Bid For Victory At Petit Le Mans Concludes With Late-Race Crash

In a dramatic conclusion to the Motul Petit Le Mans, the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06 was involved in a crash during the final hour. Ricky Taylor, who was leading at the time, could not avoid two GTD cars colliding ahead. This incident ended their race prematurely, dashing hopes for victory.

The #40 WTRAndretti Acura, driven by Jordan Taylor, Louis Deletraz, and Colton Herta, faced its own challenges. After an early full-course caution disrupted their strategy, they fought back to regain the lead lap. However, a punctured tire damaged the car's undertray in the seventh hour, affecting its performance and resulting in a seventh-place finish.

Gradient Racing's #66 Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 also had a tough race. Drivers Sheena Monk, Stevan McAleer, and Tatiana Calderon started strong but were set back by a cut tire and contact that caused a spin. The limited number of cautions this year meant they couldn't recover lost laps, finishing 12th in their category.

Ricky Taylor expressed pride in his team's efforts despite the disappointing end. "First of all, I'm super proud of our team. Once again, for the fourth year straight, they put us in a position to win here at the end," he said. He reflected on their partnership with Acura since 2018 as one filled with good memories.

Filipe Albuquerque shared his frustration over the crash that was unavoidable. "There isn't a lot to say. The team once again did an amazing job," he stated. Despite leading and performing well throughout the race, he lamented how often they've left disappointed due to circumstances beyond their control.

Louis Deletraz described the race as "crazy," highlighting their battle to stay competitive after early setbacks. "We were fighting for six hours to stay on the lead lap after being hurt by the early safety car," he noted. Although they nearly regained lost ground after another puncture setback, they ultimately finished seventh.

Acknowledging Team Efforts and Future Prospects

Jordan Taylor commented on their promising start but acknowledged unfortunate events that affected both cars' outcomes. "I think we had some promise today," he said. Reflecting on past successes like Sebring provided some solace as they look forward to future races.

Colton Herta enjoyed participating in endurance racing with HRC and Acura ARX-06 despite not achieving victory this time. "I always enjoy coming to this race," he remarked about his experience at Petit Le Mans.

Reflections from Gradient Racing and Honda Racing Corporation

Andris Laivins from Gradient Racing expressed disappointment over their result but praised his team's performance under challenging conditions: "It was a rough day." He appreciated Honda's support over many years while acknowledging bad luck played its part during this eventful race weekend.

David Salters of Honda Racing Corporation USA extended gratitude towards Wayne Taylor Racing for four years of collaboration: "First, a massive and heartfelt 'thank you' to all the men and women at Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti over the last four years." He looked forward optimistically towards new opportunities next season as they embark on fresh adventures together.

The Motul Petit Le Mans marked an end for this year's IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season held at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta; however exciting prospects await when it resumes next January at Daytona International Speedway with Rolex 24 kicking off another thrilling chapter ahead!
