Acura NSX GT3 Celebrates Eight Years Of Success Ahead Of Final IMSA GTD Race At Petit Le Mans
Acura and Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US) are set to mark the end of an era for the Acura NSX GT3 at the Motul Petit Le Mans. The car has been a fixture in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship since its debut at the 2017 Rolex 24 at Daytona. Over eight years, it has achieved numerous victories and titles in both IMSA and SRO GT World Challenge America.
The Acura NSX GT3 boasts an impressive record, with 38 class wins across IMSA and SRO competitions. It has secured two manufacturers' championships, five drivers' titles, and four teams' championships from 2017 to 2023. Notably, Meyer Shank Racing clinched back-to-back drivers' and teams' championships in 2019 and 2020, with Acura also winning the manufacturers' title in 2019.
David Salters, President of Honda Racing Corporation USA, expressed mixed feelings about the NSX's departure from IMSA competition. "It's bittersweet to see the end of the NSX in IMSA competition," he said. "It's a beautiful car and we've seen great success with it." He thanked everyone involved for their dedication to making the NSX a championship-winning car.
Although this marks its final race in IMSA, the NSX GT3 Evo22 will continue competing in other series worldwide. The car's chassis was crafted alongside production models at Ohio's Performance Manufacturing Center. Its racing engine shares design specifications with production counterparts, including a twin-turbocharged V6 engine built at Anna Engine Plant.
The NSX GT3 features a six-speed sequential-shift gearbox powering its rear wheels. Final assembly took place at JAS Motorsport in Italy. This meticulous construction process underscores its performance capabilities on the track.
