Acura Reveals Integra Type S HRC Prototype With Potential Performance Parts Line
Acura has unveiled the Integra Type S HRC Prototype, highlighting a potential new range of Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) performance parts for both street and track use. This prototype was introduced at Monterey Car Week, a premier event for automotive and motorsports enthusiasts. The Integra Type S HRC Prototype enhances the dynamic capabilities of the most powerful Integra to date, offering ultimate performance for Acura enthusiasts.
"HRC performance parts is an exciting concept focused on building a stronger connection with Acura and Honda enthusiasts eager to access exclusive HRC race engineering to augment their performance driving experience," said Jon Ikeda, Senior Vice President, Honda Racing Corporation USA. "Every spec of the Acura Integra Type S HRC Prototype screams performance. Everything is functional – if it doesn't add performance it isn't on the car."
The aggressive styling of the Integra Type S HRC Prototype was crafted at the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles. Drawing from the aerodynamic development of the Integra Type S TCX racecar, this model features enhanced downforce and high-speed stability. Key aerodynamic elements include a new front fascia with a larger splitter and cooling ducts, larger hood vents, side splitters, and an adjustable carbon fibre rear wing with aluminium uprights.
To further improve overall performance, extensive carbon fibre components are used to reduce weight. These include the hood, rear door panels, and one-piece Recaro bucket seats. The rear seat has been replaced with a carbon shelf designed for secure transport of four mounted wheels and tyres during track days. An optional air conditioning delete helps reduce weight by nearly 200 lbs from the standard Integra Type S.
The high-revving turbocharged 2.0-litre VTEC® engine's output, response, and cooling are enhanced with a larger intercooler, twin oil coolers, and a tuned lightweight cat-back exhaust system. Handling improvements include a lowered suspension with tuned coilovers, an adjustable rear anti-roll bar, and adjustable front and rear camber plates. Forged lightweight 19 x 9.5-inch wheels widen the front and rear track by 30mm for better handling.
The prototype's braking system features massive 15-inch two-piece front rotors paired with Brembo® 6-piston aluminium callipers. Two-piece rear rotors help reduce unsprung weight while larger ducts in the front fascia improve brake cooling by directing more air to the front rotors. The chassis is stiffened with an X-Brace in the rear bulkhead, painted in Indy Yellow Pearl to match the exterior.
