Acura Integra Type S Competing In Iconic 'One Lap Of America' Cross Country Road Rally Starting This Week
Acura Engineers Compete in Iconic Tire Rack One Lap of AmericaA team of engineers from the Honda Automotive Development Center in Ohio, along with the Honda of America Racing Team (HART), are taking on the challenging Tire Rack One Lap of America event. Driving a turbocharged 2024 Acura Integra Type S, the engineers will compete in the eight-day cross-country road rally, covering a distance of 3,500 miles and including timed events on nine racetracks across the Midwest.The Acura Integra Type S, known for its power and performance, is being driven by Justyn Bobinski and Nick Amato. Bobinski, a brake and vehicle dynamics test engineer at the Honda North American Automotive Development Center (ADC), and Amato, who performs brake verification testing at the Marysville Auto Plant, are both based in Ohio.In addition to the Acura Integra Type S, the team is also bringing a "one-and-a-half" NSX Type S supercar. Piloted by ADC engineers Tyler Chambers and Chad Gilsinger, this 600 hp hybrid-electric vehicle will be towing the rear half of another NSX custom fabricated into a race trailer. The trailer will carry spare tires, tools, and fluids for each track event.The Acura race team is part of HART, which consists of Honda associates across North America. The HART program provides valuable experience through motorsport while transferring vehicle performance learnings into the development and manufacturing of next-generation Honda and Acura products.Bobinski expressed his excitement about representing Team Acura in this year's One Lap of America event. He sees it as an excellent opportunity to test the performance and durability of the Acura Integra Type S under extreme conditions. The high-performance variant features a turbocharged 320-horsepower 2.0-liter engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, an innovative dual-axis front suspension design, and 4-piston Brembo front brakes. The only modifications made for competition are a racing seat and roll cage for safety, CarboTech brake pads, Red Line Oil, and a custom "careers.honda.com" livery.The Acura NSX Type S, with its improved aerodynamics, reduced weight, MCS Suspension dampers, H&R springs, Red Line Oil, and lightweight HRE wheels, is returning for this year's event after a strong second-place finish in the Stock GT class in 2023. The NSX trailer, constructed by the ADC fabrication team, was made from a rescued second-generation NSX test mule. It was cut in half and fitted with custom barn doors for easy access to supplies.The 40th running of the Tire Rack One Lap of America will start and end at the Tire Rack headquarters in South Bend, Indiana. Competitors will travel through 12 states and participate in timed track events at various motorsports facilities across the country.The Acura race team's participation in this event not only showcases the performance and durability of the Acura Integra Type S but also supports the Victory Center, an Ohio-based organization that provides programs and services to cancer patients, survivors, and their families.With their engineering expertise and passion for motorsports, the Acura engineers are ready to push the limits of the Acura Integra Type S and demonstrate its capabilities on the challenging tracks of the Tire Rack One Lap of America.
