Rolex Monterey To Celebrate Formula One's 75th Anniversary With Historic Races

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion has announced its 2025 event, set for August 13-16 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. This year’s gathering will celebrate the 75th anniversary of Formula One®, the world’s premier racing series. The announcement was made during the prize-giving ceremonies at this year’s historic race event.

Attendees can expect an immersive experience that captures Formula One's thrilling legacy and global popularity. The event will feature two dedicated historic F1 race groups, including cars from pre-1966 and the existing grid of 1966-1985 cars that competed in the Mario Andretti Trophy race this year. This marks the first time Monterey will include a pre-1966 class, with many entries expected from international drivers.

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, expressed his excitement about the upcoming event. "I’m looking forward to returning to Monterey Reunion in 2025 to be part of the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of Formula 1," he said. "McLaren has a long and successful standing in the series, so it’s fantastic to celebrate Formula 1’s history as we continue our battle to consistently fight at the front of the grid in the present."

Bruce Canepa, Vice President of Friends of Laguna Seca, echoed this sentiment. "It’s the pinnacle of motorsports and we are thrilled to be celebrating F1’s heritage, and future, on the series’ 75th anniversary," he stated. "While F1 has never professionally raced at Laguna Seca, the historic F1 cars that race during the Rolex Reunion have been keeping the passion alive for past, present and future generations."

Formula One racing began in 1950 and has since become one of the most prestigious forms of racing worldwide. In 2024, it will visit 24 race circuits across 21 countries. The series is renowned for showcasing driving talent, teamwork, and engineering prowess. It serves as a testing ground for automobile manufacturers and tire companies to develop new technologies for road-going cars.

The Rolex Reunion is an annual high-speed exhibition featuring over 400 historic race cars. Each car is authentic and period-correct to its original racing era. This includes early Ragtime Racers with riding mechanics and high-speed prototypes that dominated iconic races like Daytona, Sebring, and Le Mans.

A Tribute to Motorsport History

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion aims to honour motorsport's rich history while offering a glimpse into its future. From its inaugural season in 1950, Formula One has seen numerous champions who have left lasting impacts on the sport. Notable champions include Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher with seven titles each, followed by Juan Manuel Fangio with five.

This unique gathering promises to be a remarkable tribute to motorsport history and a must-see for racing enthusiasts. It will celebrate past achievements while setting the stage for future innovations in racing technology.

The event will not only salute historical milestones but also provide an engaging platform for fans to witness firsthand how far motorsport has come over seven decades.
